Hunter Biden is standing by his decision to sit down with Nick Fuentes. The interview drew criticism because of Fuentes’ inflammatory political record.
Biden defended participating in the interview after discussing Donald Trump and other political topics
On July 24, Biden appeared alongside Fuentes for a nearly two-hour episode of “Channel 5 With Andrew Callaghan.” The pair argued about race, Israel, antisemitism, cancel culture, Joe Biden, Donald Trump, and MAGA politics. Although they clashed repeatedly, both criticized Trump and questioned whether his political positions reflect a consistent ideology, as per Ok Magazine.
At one point, Biden accused Trump of blaming Joe Biden and the Biden family whenever problems arise. Fuentes, who once supported Trump, said the president had failed to fulfill promises tied to his “America First” message. The discussion marked an unexpected point of agreement during an otherwise tense exchange.
Earlier reports suggested Biden and Fuentes nearly came to blows while filming. However, the released conversation focused mostly on their political disagreements, with Andrew Callaghan repeatedly steering the discussion toward possible common ground.
After the video sparked backlash, Biden defended the interview in a statement on X. He called Fuentes’ views about race, women and the Holocaust “indefensible.” Still, he argued that refusing to speak with political opponents allows fear and hatred to grow.
Biden said powerful figures profit when Americans remain divided and stop listening to one another. His central justification, however, involved Trump. He described the president as “the one true existential threat to this democracy” and wrote, “Nick and I agree on almost nothing. We agree on Trump.”
The former president’s son also pointed to Fuentes’ large online audience. He said he wanted to hear Fuentes explain his positions directly instead of relying only on what others said about him.
The defense fits Biden’s recent run of outspoken political appearances. He has accused Trump of tormenting him and Joe Biden for years and has targeted several MAGA figures during other interviews. This time, he argued that one shared concern justified a conversation filled with major disagreements.
