Michael B. Jordan’s Crime Thriller Remake First Look Officially Debuts

Michael B. Jordan has had plenty of build-up for his next directorial feature. Following his debut behind the camera with Creed III in 2023, Jordan went back to focusing on acting in perhaps his biggest role yet. After a year-long break with no feature film roles in 2024, the actor reunited with his long-time collaborator Ryan Coogler to star in the Black Panther director’s original feature Sinners. The film earned critical and financial acclaim, with Jordan eventually winning the Academy Award for Best Actor for his dual roles as the twins Smoke and Stack. Now, Jordan is directing a remake of one of the most famous heist movies of all time.

The Thomas Crown Affair was first released in 1968 and starred Steve McQueen in the lead role. Eventually, the film was remade in 1999, starring Pierce Brosnan in the titular role. Michael B. Jordan is reimagining the film through a modern lens, starring as Thomas Crown in addition to directing. The remake went through some creative changes in the lead-up to filming, with Adria Arjona (Star Wars: Andor) replacing Taylor Russell as the female lead. Marketing for The Thomas Crown Affair has begun to ramp up, with an official poster of the movie teasing the look and feel of the film.

Jordan took to Instagram to share the first poster for the movie, and while it doesn’t show the actor’s complete face, it does place prominence on Crown’s tuxedo and gloves. The official logo of the movie is featured on the poster, along with the tagline “revenge is a work of art,” teasing the direction that this new iteration of the story is going in. Along with this first look at the movie is the release date of Mar. 5, 2027, giving The Thomas Crown Affair a spring debut. A first look at the movie was already shown at Cinema Con, promising a large-scale and ambitious production.

The poster already confirms something that’s been reported as well — The Thomas Crown Affair is filmed for IMAX. The premium format has only grown more popular over the past three years, thanks to filmmakers like Christopher Nolan, Ryan Coogler, and others who have championed it as a way to enhance a filmmaker’s vision. Having the release date in March also gives the movie breathing room and IMAX screens dedicated to screening Michael B. Jordan’s latest. Interestingly, Jordan has used the format before, filming scenes of Creed III in IMAX and making it the first sports movie ever to do so.

Given the actor’s history of working with talented directors, it will be interesting to see if The Thomas Crown Affair ends up being as well-received as films he has only acted in. Having such a close working relationship with Ryan Coogler, the actor is sure to have developed an understanding of creating film and handling a massive production in a way few other directors have. With an impressive cast that includes the likes of Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Aubrey Plaza, and Ruth Negga, there is plenty to look forward to with this third iteration of what is now a classic heist story.
