Prime Video’s 107-Minute Action Thriller Passes Major Streaming Milestone

Prime Video’s explosive new action thriller is officially one of the biggest movies on streaming. Reacher is Prime Video’s most iconic action thriller franchise. But tucked just behind the mountain of muscle that is Alan Ritchson is John Krasinski, who led four seasons of Prime Video’s other action thriller series based on a best-selling book series. Krasinski firmly left the role of Jim from The Office behind, become a certified action star for Jack Ryan. Earlier this year, the four-season series moved beyond the realm of television into feature films, dropping the first of potentially many movie spin-offs. That film has been streaming on Prime Video for over a month, and during that time, it’s racked up quite a fan base.

John Krasinski returned for Jack Ryan: Ghost War (unfortunately, it’s not Jack Ryan literally shooting at ghosts), and the film was an instant hit on Prime Video. After debuting on May 15, Ghost War quickly shot to the top of Prime Video’s weekly top 10. It may have been knocked down a few spots since then, but the film has remained in the top 10 since. Project Hail Mary is currently the most popular movie on the platform, with Hugh Jackman’s The Sheep Detectives in second. Look a bit further down the list, and you’ll see Jack Ryan: Ghost War in sixth place. That might not sound too impressive, but that means it’s the sixth most popular movie, worldwide!

If the title didn’t give it away, John Krasinski plays Jack Ryan (shock), who must uncover a rogue black ops unit. With the clock ticking, Jack Ryan reunites with Mike November (Michael Kelly) and James Greer (Wendell Pierce), with Sienna Miller playing MI6 officer Emma Marlowe.

‘Jack Ryan: Ghost War’ Is a Streaming Hit, But a Critical Disaster

The Jack Ryan series was a decent action thriller, which earned good reviews from audiences and critics. The series holds an average Rotten Tomatoes score of 80%. The show even managed to stick the landing, earning a near-perfect 94% RT score for its fourth season. Unfortunately, the film wasn’t received the same.

According to critics, the movie feels like a generic globe-trotting action caper with a Jack Ryan label slapped on it. As a result, the film holds a poor 41% Rotten Tomatoes rating. Unfortunately, audiences were even more critical of the movie, giving it a 35% user score.

Is ‘Jack Ryan: Ghost War’ The Last Entry in the Franchise?

Fans thought it was all over when Season 4 of Jack Ryan dropped. Then John Krasinski returned for Ghost War (although, given the reviews, he probably shouldn’t have), and fans thought it was all over again. Although, for a second time, that might not be the case. Another Jack Ryan movie hasn’t officially been announced yet. But the ending of Ghost War left things open for a second movie. And, given the movie’s strong performance on the streaming charts, it wouldn’t be surprising if Amazon wanted to cash in on the franchise once again.
