‘Reacher’s Most Exciting Replacement Officially Arrives In Two Weeks

As viewers await the official release date for Season 4 of the hit action series Reacher, there are plenty of enthralling Prime Video rivals to keep fans entertained. Whether it’s the seven-season series Bosch and its spin-off Ballard, Cross, or Jack Ryan, the streamer has plenty of explosive options to choose from to divert your attention until Alan Ritchson makes a rousing return later in 2026. However, it’s far from the only streaming service to offer stiff competition. Apple TV’s much-buzzed-about new crime thriller is the perfect placeholder until Reacher‘s upcoming season premieres.

Created by Jonathan Tropper (Banshee, Warrior) and featuring a star-studded cast that includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Timothy Olyphant, and Annette Bening, Lucky is a riveting new series set to premiere shortly. An ideal action crime thriller to indulge in this summer, Lucky will please those who enjoyed Taylor-Joy’s brutally physical performance in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

‘Lucky’ Features Anya Taylor-Joy as a Hardcore Action Heroine

Apple TV

Based on Marissa Stapley’s 2021 novel of the same name, Lucky is a seven-part miniseries that will stream on Apple TV from July 15 to August 19, 2026. In a rousing return to the action realm following her commanding performances in Furiosa, The Gorge, The Northman, and others, Anya Taylor-Joy stars as Luciana “Lucky” Armstrong, a reformed criminal looking to walk the straight and narrow. However, when her newfound freedom and lifestyle change are threatened, Lucky is summoned back into the life of crime to pull off one last daring assignment.

A riff on the classic trope involving a career criminal who tries to get clean but can’t avoid their past, Lucky features an ideal action role for Taylor-Joy. The actor and the rest of the talented cast are sure to rival Reacher‘s high-impact action. Bening plays a ruthless mobster, and Olyphant playing Lucky’s father, Cliff Collins Jr. (Westworld). William Fichtner (Heat) rounds out the star-studded ensemble.

With 5.7 million views in the past three weeks, the trailer for Lucky depicts the title character on the run from the FBI and the military. She fires handguns, launches flares, engages in ferocious fisticuffs, obtains stolen cash belonging to the mob, runs from a pair of hitmen, survives harrowing car crashes, evades helicopters, and more. The breathless action is sure to keep Reacher fans happy.

‘Lucky’s One-Woman Army Tropes Give ‘Reacher’ A Run for its Money

If the familiar premise, excellent ensemble, and Taylor-Joy’s star power and charisma haven’t sold you, consider the talent behind the one-woman army action miniseries. In addition to Taylor-Joy and Reese Witherspoon executive producing the show, the writers include Kevin Rosen (Preacher), Hilary Bettis (Dutton Ranch), Ariel Levine (Pluribus), and Cassie Pappas (Griselda), all of whom have proven experience writing for popular action series.

Even more impressive is Lucky’s directorial slate, which includes Jonathan Van Tulleken (Shogun, Cape Fear), Greg Yaitanes (Banshee, Marshals), and Jet Wilkinson (Bosch: Legacy, Ballard). Between the one-woman army setup, the superb cast led by bona fide action star Taylor-Joy, and the expert writers and directors who know how to deliver highly entertaining action thrills, Lucky is poised to supplant Reacher as the next great TV series this summer.

Since Lucky is designed as a standalone miniseries, it will be fascinating to see if it becomes popular enough to endure beyond seven episodes. If it becomes a critical darling and a ratings hit, the producers may feel compelled to keep the show going. Indeed, the only way that Lucky can best the indestructible Alan Ritchson in Reacher is if it remains on the air and stays in the hearts and minds of viewers. If only Lucky could be so fortunate.
