Savannah Guthrie Addresses 4-Day Break From Today Show

Savannah Guthrie, whose 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, disappeared a few months ago, is back on Today following an unexplained four-day break. It was later revealed that the 54-year-old journalist had taken a pre-planned break from her on-screen duties.

Savannah Guthrie clarified why she stepped away from the Today Show

Savannah returned to the NBC morning show on July 14, where co-host Craig Melvin welcomed her back to Today’s Studio 1A. Melvin also suggested her absence was planned, noting that she had enjoyed “some much-deserved time off,” reports

Savannah said she spent her break watching the 2026 FIFA World Cup, catching several quarterfinal matches and keeping up with the tournament schedule. While she proudly shared her new soccer expertise and noted that the France-Spain semifinal was set to take place on July 14, she did not provide additional details about her absence.

Previously, TMZ reported that the anchor has stepped away from her hosting duties temporarily to spend time with her family, and her absence is unrelated to the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of her mother.

The television journalist, who earlier took a nearly two-month absence from the show following her mother’s disappearance and returned to the show on April 6, told KOLD 13 News on July 1, “There is not a moment that goes by that we aren’t actively trying to find our mom. We thank the people of Tucson for holding her in their hearts, as well as both the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office for their tireless work on behalf of our family. Bring her home.”

Nancy was last seen on the night of January 31 after arriving home from dining with family in the Catalina Foothills near Tucson, Arizona. Surveillance footage from her home showed a masked individual, and authorities discovered her blood at the location. However, no suspect has been identified yet. According to the BBC, the family has offered a $1 million reward for information, alongside a $100,000 reward from the FBI.
