Many airports still enforce 100ml rules for liquids (Image: AzmanL via Getty Images)
While several major airports, including London-Heathrow and Gatwick, have scrapped their 100ml restrictions at security and now permit liquids of up to two litres, many hubs, such as Liverpool John Lennon and Bristol Airport, still have the limits in place.
Many airports have updated their scanners, meaning the fiddly little plastic bags used to separate your liquids are no longer required in the majority of security lines, yet the 100ml rule means that packing toiletries or children’s essentials can prove rather challenging if you’re travelling with hand luggage only.

You could simply purchase what you need once you arrive at your destination, but many travellers have their preferred brands and are reluctant to disrupt their child’s routine when it comes to things like formula or wet wipes. This handy trick means you can still buy your favourite British products and bring them along with you.
What many passengers don’t realise is that you can pre-order items from retailers such as pharmacies and arrange a click-and-collect at airside locations. You simply visit the retailer’s website, add items such as sun cream, wipes, ready-made formula, full-sized shampoo, or shower gel to your basket, then schedule a click-and-collect for your departure date.
If you’re ordering from a well-known chain, be sure to select the branch listed as past security or airside during checkout, as there may be several outlets within the same airport. The majority of airlines permit passengers to bring a shopping bag containing airport purchases into the cabin, which comes on top of your standard luggage allowance, and because you’ve already cleared security, you’re able to purchase items exceeding 100ml, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The advice originates from Jet2, which has shared its top parenting tips for family travel throughout the summer months, covering everything from airport navigation to keeping children entertained during the flight.
The airline also revealed that airports permit parents to carry baby milk for the journey, even when it exceeds 100ml, though cautioned: “Security may ask to screen the milk separately, so it’s best to take it out of your hand luggage for ease.”
Jet2 confirmed that cabin crew will heat baby milk on board upon request, although not every airline provides this facility, so it’s advisable to check before departure. Some airlines will supply a cup of hot water if requested, enabling you to warm milk at your seat.

Jet2 also made the recommendation to: “Allow extra time with children at the airport so you have time for security as well as toilet trips, feeding hungry little ones, and any last-minute inevitable surprises.”
It also unveiled a method to keep kids occupied when travelling with Jet2: “Younger travellers can pick up a Teddy Passport at many airport check-in desks to engage them in the airport experience and help beat the boredom; they can even show them to the cabin crew onboard as a bit of extra fun!”.
