Beast Of Reincarnation: 5 Early Game Starter Tips

Beast of Reincarnation blends Soulslike combat and exploration with a hint of turn-based fun to become something surprisingly unique in the action role-playing genre. Luckily, much of what makes the game stand out among its contemporaries is explained well as you work your way through the game’s opening hours. But even so, we think it’s always good to know a bit about what to expect.

Whether you’re getting started in Beast of Reincarnation or just considering checking it out, we’ve put together a handful of useful early game tips that will help you acclimate to this new world. Here’s what you need to know during the first few hours of Beast of Reincarnation.

Emma’s Hair Can Create Great Assassination Opportunities

Emma’s hair is her most valuable asset, as it allows her to grow vine-like structures that can be used in various ways. The two most important things to master are the Lift and Extend abilities. The former functions like a long double jump, lifting you high up when you hold down the jump button, letting you reach areas you couldn’t otherwise get to. The latter extends her hair in a straight line in front of you, providing you with a path across gaps.

However, while these are great for general navigation, they’re also immensely useful for opening up combat encounters. Most notably, you can use the Extend ability to create a path above a specific enemy, then walk out onto it to provide an easy air assassination opportunity. And if you time things right with the Lift ability, you can even strategically rise above your foes’ general awareness range and then fall down on them for a quick assassination. Mastering these two abilities will ensure you can control the battlefield and engage on your own terms.

Skill Mods Are Essential

Skill mods can be purchased and attached to each of Koo’s Bloom Arts to provide passive boons each time you use the corresponding art. Combining the right skill mods can help fill out your build and make you more deadly than ever, so it’s important to dive into Koo’s skill tree and really get a feel for which ones align with your personal playstyle.

If you want to focus on building status effects faster, maybe take a look at the Incantation tree’s skill mods. Meanwhile, if you want to aid Emma more directly, the Guard tree provides excellent choices that can improve her combat effectiveness or offer support at pivotal moments. You can always mix and match these as you see fit, too — you’re not tied to a single tree or skill mod type.

Of course, if you decide you want to try a new build with Koo, you can simply respec your attributes and skills once you’ve met the right NPC a little way into the game.

You Can Cure Status Effects Quickly With Koo

A lot of enemies in Beast of Reincarnation will inflict status effects on you, and these can often wear away your HP rapidly. You don’t have to suffer needlessly, though. If you find yourself afflicted, open Koo’s commands and press the corresponding button assigned to his Emergency Medicine ability (L2 on PS5, for instance). Note, however, that you have a finite number of these items when out in the field, so be mindful of how often you use them.

Later, you can spec into a skill mod called Healing Energy, which can cure Emma’s status effects when Koo uses the corresponding Bloom Art. With this added to your repertoire alongside the Emergency Medicine, keeping yourself free of things like burning and poison shouldn’t be too much trouble.

Upgrading Weapons Is Directly Tied To Exploration

If you want to be prepared for what’s ahead (see: difficult end-of-region bosses), you’ll almost certainly need to upgrade your weapons and projectiles. However, these upgrades are tied to the growth of your Cleanse Walker (hub), meaning you will reach points where you can’t upgrade your items any further until you’ve leveled up Emma’s home base.

Leveling up the Cleanse Walker requires you to find rare items scattered throughout each area: Generator Devices, Electronic Brains, and Memory Chips. As such, it’s imperative that you thoroughly explore each region so that Koo can discover these items for you to pick up. Each time you return to the Cleanse Walker, you’ll “deposit” these, eventually leveling up the base and allowing you to further enhance your weapons.

You can see what level your base needs to be to upgrade a weapon again by looking at the number beside the weapon in the equipment enhancement screen.

There’s Always A Lower Difficulty

Beast of Reincarnation‘s default (Normal) difficulty is designed to provide a fairly standard Soulslike challenge, meaning that you’ll die in just a few hits from your enemies. As such, you’ll need to master parrying, dodging, and build crafting to overcome even some of the game’s most basic encounters. This is doable if you’re willing to spend plenty of time practicing, as well as exploring for the necessary items to upgrade your weapons (as mentioned above).

But if you’re feeling like Normal is just a bit too punishing, you can always take advantage of Story Mode. While it maintains a reasonable challenge in some scenarios (especially if you’re underleveled in any way), it’s a considerably easier experience from beginning to end that most players can overcome. Since gaming is designed to be enjoyed, there’s no shame in bumping things down if you’re feeling too frustrated.

No one says you have to stick to one setting, either. Instead, you can always adjust the difficulty on the fly to work around whatever kind of challenge you’d like in the moment. There’s even a Hard setting for those seeking the most intensity they can get. Play your way and have a good time!
