Kansas City Chiefs coordinator Eric Bieniemy broke his silence over his wife’s alleged shooting involving their son. He addressed the questions during the Chiefs training camp press conference.

Eric Bieniemy spoke about his wife Mia’s alleged shooting by their son weeks after the incident. During the press conference, he said, “First and foremost, I want to say this: thank you, guys, for all the love and support. Obviously the unfortunate circumstances which took place [are] very hurtful in a way, but on top of that, I just respect that you guys are respecting our privacy, and hats off to you.”
Bieniemy further thanked Chiefs owners, the Hunt family, and the team for their support, according to Us Weekly. He added that they are ready to put their focus back on football as the players continue to train for the upcoming season.
Mia suffered multiple injuries and was hospitalized after the incident. While talking about his wife, Bieniemy said Mia is “on the road to recovery.” He added, “She is doing great. She’s truly a soldier and a saint, and it’s been incredible to watch.”
Bieniemy took a break from the team and spent two weeks with his wife after the alleged incident. Mia was injured at their family home in Virginia on July 26. Their son, Elijah, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding.
Head coach Andy Reid addressed the situation while Bieniemy was away from the team. After Bieniemy returned, Reid said it was good to have Eric back with the team.
Bieniemy returned to training camp on Aug. 10 as the Chiefs prepared to face their preseason opponent, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, on Saturday.
Chiefs stars like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are also training for the 2026 NFL season.
