After Charlie Cox made his MCU feature debut in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day builds this connection further with one subtle connection to Daredevil: Born Again. One of the strongest aspects of the MCU has been one of the least utilized throughout the Multiverse Saga, the connectivity between projects.
That being said, when it comes to street-level stories in the MCU, it does seem like there is a larger push to weave these narratives together. Thanks to the revival of the Marvel Netflix shows creating a perfect foundation for these stories to connect, and minor crossovers of characters as seen in Hawkeye, Echo, and the Marvel Special Presentation, The Punisher: One Last Kill, this is rapidly becoming Marvel’s most well-defined subset of stories.
And at the heart of it all, we have incredible heroes like Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, and Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, who provide hope and protection to the people of New York. So, it makes perfect sense for these stories to repeatedly intertwine and complement one another as their stories play out on the big and small screens.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Explains The Fate Of The Hand
Speaking of the Netflix Marvel shows, one of the major rivals that faced off against the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, and indeed the whole Defenders team, was the magical ninjas known as The Hand. Up to this point, Daredevil: Born Again has done very little to address where these characters have been, but thanks to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, fans finally have an answer.
The Hand plays a prominent role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with a handful of young recruits appearing in promotional material and trailers facing off against everyone’s favorite web-head. But, in watching the movie, we learn from the head of the Department for Damage Control that they were left without a master and were thus recruited by the DDC to support their mission.
In this way, they no longer terrorize the streets of New York, choosing to instead operate as a sort of unofficial militia for the DDC that end up fighting Spider-Man in the final act of the film. But their presence in Spider-Man also points to a notable development coming in Daredevil: Born Again season 3.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 Can Benefit From The Fall Of The Hand In Spider-Man: Brand New Day
In the Marvel Netflix show, The Hand initially had a very robust leadership structure until Elektra was chosen to lead the group, and subsequently caused chaos for both The Hand and her old flame, Matt Murdock. This came about because Elektra was deemed to be a legendary figure known as the Black Sky, who was destined to lead The Hand into a new age.
Unfortunately for The Hand, but fortunately for everyone else, her pre-existing relationship with Daredevil led to complexities that ultimately wrapped up her story in The Defenders as she left with her new allies to prevent a conflict of interest with her old flame impacting on her new role.
But if The Hand is without a master by the time Spider-Man: Brand New Day comes out, that explains how Elektra could return to the story and reconnect with Matt Murdock in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again season 3. Without The Hand weighing her down, Elektra can freely seek out a way to help Matt out of prison and attempt to redeem herself after her misguided departure.
Now, Daredevil: Born Again season 3 could also benefit from some further explanation as to why and what happened to separate Elektra from her loyal followers, but with her return being so imminent, we could get these answers sooner rather than later.
