Donald Trump‘s least-favorite reporter has broadcast a video showing the elaborate decoy operation Trump used to switch planes in secret during a NATO summit visit to Turkey. The video shows the president boarding a catering truck in a manoeuvre kept secret from reporters and even some staff.
Kaitlan Collins shows a video of Donald Trump escaping in catering truck
On Monday night’s episode of CNN’s The Source, Kaitlan Collins aired video showing Trump boarding Air Force One in Ankara at 8:24 p.m. on July 8, in full view of the media. Minutes later, the president slipped off the plane unseen and climbed into an elevated catering truck, the kind normally used to load meals onto aircraft. The truck pulled away from Air Force One at 8:30 p.m., ferrying him to a separate, smaller aircraft, an Air Force C-32A.
Collins explained the sequence to viewers, saying, “You see here the reporters capture the president getting off the plane that they thought he had just flown on with them to the U.K., and he’s seen coming down the stairs just before 11 p.m.”
The decoy move meant Trump’s whereabouts were hidden from several U.S. officials and the public for hours. The Washington Post has reported there is still no clarity on how Trump got from the smaller decoy plane back onto Air Force One once it landed in London, before he continued home aboard the Qatari-gifted Boeing 747-8.
The Post’s National Security Reporter Dan Lamothe, also appearing on The Source, said the story emerged after sources flagged what he called “a hole in the public understanding here that needed to be clarified.”
He added, “It’s unclear at the moment what exactly triggered them to take these extreme measures. We’ve gone about a month now since it occurred, and until today, there was no public understanding of it.” The switch reportedly came in response to a credible Iran-linked threat, a night after the U.S. renewed military strikes on Iran (via The Daily Beast).
