Downtown Abbey alum Dan Stevens has been cast in Prime Video’s reboot of “RoboCop”.
Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, the co-writers of the original, will serve as executive producers for this edition.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Prime Video series will span eight episodes. It will reimagine the 1987 classic. The official logline says the story follows “a giant tech conglomerate” that persuades a city to place a powerful robot on its police force.
Writer and showrunner Peter Ocko is overseeing the project, while horror filmmaker James Wan will serve as an executive producer. Michael Clear and Rob Hackett will also executive produce through Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Original RoboCop co-writers Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner are attached as executive producers.
Wan previously expressed his excitement about revisiting the franchise. He said, “I’ve been a massive fan of RoboCop forever, so getting to help bring this world to television is a dream.” He also said the franchise’s themes around technology, identity and corporate power remain relevant.
Directed by Paul Verhoeven, the original RoboCop debuted in 1987 and starred Peter Weller as Alex Murphy. The Detroit police officer is fatally wounded and rebuilt as a crime-fighting cyborg. In the new series, Stevens will take on the role.
The franchise later expanded through sequels, animated series, live-action television adaptations, comic books and video games. A feature-film reboot starring Joel Kinnaman arrived in 2014.
Stevens is known for roles in Downton Abbey, Marvel’s Legion, Beauty and the Beast, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and Abigail.
