As Netflix continues rolling out thriller after thriller, one of its most recent releases has officially become the biggest show in the streaming world. It doesn’t need to feature famous Hollywood stars, as, with this crime thriller effort, it’s all about the engrossing and fast-paced plot that’s sure to keep you on edge throughout its five episodes. Following the success of Harlan Coben’s latest outing, I Will Find You, we’ve been looking for another gripping crime thriller to fill that particular hole, and Netflix’s new one is exactly what we needed.
‘Blood Sacrifice’ Is Crowned the #1 TV Series on Netflix
The show in question is Blood Sacrifice, Netflix’s most recent release from its original programming slate. The five-part series premiered worldwide on August 20, and it quickly entered the streaming charts. Popular contenders such as I Will Find You and My Life with the Walter Boys were dethroned by the Swedish production, which became a hit both with U.S. and international audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series sits at 86% on the critics’ score, while the audience score registers a significantly lower rating of 41%.
Now that Netflix has rolled out its official weekly stats, Blood Sacrifice holds the #1 spot on the top 10 of non-English TV shows. The numbers reflect viewership statistics between August 17 and August 23, meaning that Blood Sacrifice achieved that impressive result in just four days. According to the latest update to the charts, the series had a total of 7 million views, with the viewing hours reaching the 29.3 million mark.

A Captivating Serial Killer Thriller That Delivers
Blood Sacrifice was created by George Kay (Lupin) and stars Jakob Oftebro and Peter Andersson in the leading roles. The show takes viewers to Stockholm, where Detective Thomas Berg (Oftebro) is investigating a peculiar murder. Two officers are viciously killed, and Berg notices the similarities between these murders and some that took place before. The problem is that the suspect from the previous case couldn’t have been responsible…as he’s behind bars. This forces the detective to seek help from someone he has become estranged from: his father, ex-police officer Alfred Berg (Andersson). Teaming up, they realize the serial killer they’re dealing with may be even more elusive than they initially thought.
Although crime shows such as this can often be formulaic, some manage to stand out by including a more unique element. In the case of Blood Sacrifice, there’s an interesting father-son relationship at the center of the plot. Things don’t start off well for the duo, but in the short span of five episodes, their bond becomes stronger. Naturally, this wouldn’t have been possible without the brilliant performances by the two leads, which allows the Nordic crime noir to be surprisingly emotional, and makes Blood Sacrifice a must-see, must-binge new gem from Netflix.
