The left is insane
It is very interesting how Martin Gurri points out that the extremism of his former — or perhaps still his current — party forced him to vote for President Trump (“The left forces me to vote MAGA,” July 29).
Despite the platitudes and the strategies he laid out, the cold, hard fact is that Democrats represent the government. Everything they do is for their own benefit, not the person on the street. That eludes him and many like him. His side was so insane he had no choice but to switch.

Every year we learn about how the MTA is ripping off the state for overtime costs (“Runaway O.T. train,” July 29).
Every year not a damn thing is done about it. That’s what happens when you vote blue.

Zo vs. immigrants
The Multicultural Business Coalition’s vote to sue the city sharply reveals two competing visions of immigration in New York (“Immigrant grocery group suit,” July 29).
One immigrant leases a storefront, takes a loan and works the counter seven days a week, absorbing risks no one subsidizes, while City Hall spends $70 million, provides rent-free space and underwrites permanent discounts that compete directly against that entrepreneur.
One vision trusts immigrants to build businesses. The other has government compete against them. And if the government store succeeds, it won’t be by adding to the neighborhood — it will be by displacing the grocer who was already there.
New York needs an affordability agenda. It doesn’t need one that puts the government in direct competition with the immigrants who have long sustained the city’s neighborhoods.

Fight back, biz
Charles Gasparino claims New York City business leaders are done playing nice with Mayor Mamdani’s administration — I hope he’s right (“Biz leaders done being nice with ‘dangerous’ customer Mamdani,” July 30).
No one wants to see the greatest city in the world swirling down the toilet. If New York City is going to survive the Mamdani yobbos, the business community is going to have to lead that fight.

Be like Lindsey
Lindsey Graham was a wonderful senator and a real American. Why can’t all of Congress get together and keep this country going in the right direction, instead of driving it to the left (“Tribute from prez,” July 29)?
Too bad our government is not fighting for the people who put them in their positions to maintain the freedoms and common goals we all once had.
I hope it’s not too late for them to do the right thing for the American people like they all swore on the Bible to do when they ran for and were elected into their positions.

How un-American
I was sorry to read about Assemblywoman Amanda Septimo’s mistreatment of Bruce Blakeman by refusing to let him speak at the Bronx Dominican Day Parade (“Bruce gagged at Bronx parade,” July 28).
If Septimo had been alive during the 1950s, she would have made an excellent member of the House Un-American Activities Committee. It looks as if the intolerant spirit of Joseph McCarthy is alive and well in Septimo.
