The Challenge alum Tyler Duckworth has died at age 44 after being found unresponsive in his bathroom.
According to The Sun, local officials in North Dakota, where Duckworth had been living recently, confirmed that the former MTV reality star died shortly before noon on Tuesday. The publication reports that there were no witnesses on the scene.
On Thursday, August 13, Duckworth’s mother, Joni, announced her son’s death on Facebook. “My son, Tyler, passed away earlier this week,” she wrote. “Cause of death has yet to be determined. I will post on Facebook about services as soon as his dad and I figure it out.”
Duckworth first appeared on MTV’s The Real World: Key West in 2006 and later competed on The Challenge, where he became a two-time champion. He competed across six seasons of the MTV franchise, including The Duel, The Gauntlet III, Cutthroat, Rivals, All Stars 2, and All Stars 3, winning back-to-back championships on The Challenge: Cutthroat in 2010 and Rivals in 2011. Duckworth was best remembered for his athletic eliminations, including a famed physical matchup against Johnny Bananas and his showdowns against CT Tamburello.
Duckworth’s last public appearance was at The Challenge Mania event held in Minneapolis on July 31 with fellow MTV alumni Rachel Robinson, Tina Barta, Mark Long, and Brad Fiorenza. “So proud to represent my hometown of Minneapolis along with these other challenge legends,” Tyler posted to Instagram on August 2. “The fans are what keep us coming out! Hearing your stories of courage, inspiration & joy that you’ve got being a fan of the franchise is humbling each and every time. Also, pretty sure we nailed the cast photo for the lost season of The Real World: Minneapolis!! Thank you, Minneapolis! Thank you.”
On Duckworth’s final Instagram post, fans, friends, and fellow reality TV stars shared their condolences and memories. The Challenge: USA alum Corey Lay wrote, “Rest in peace Tyler,” while The Challenge veteran and Big Brother alum Paulie Calafiore commented, “Crazy brother. You were so full of life here. Rest in peace.”
