King Charles is reportedly “fearing” the chaos that could follow Charles Spencer’s memoir about Princess Diana. The book contains several bombshell claims. In it, Spencer wrote that the then-Prince of Wales said, “we’ll forget her soon enough.” Spencer notes that the then-Prince Charles made the statement following Diana’s fatal car crash in 1997. It was allegedly during a dispute. He also alleged that Charles sounded “giddily elated” after Diana’s death.
The author further claimed that Prince Harry and Prince William were asked by Palace officials to walk behind Diana’s coffin partly. This was allegedly done to protect Charles from public anger and outrage. A new report by Radar Online suggests that Buckingham Palace has publicly challenged Spencer’s recollection of events. Following this, the king is reportedly “fearing an evidence trail.”
A royal source said the monarch’s biggest concern is that Spencer is not simply presenting himself as someone “recalling conversations” from years ago. Instead, he is a historian who understands the value of records and the importance of establishing a clear chronology.
The source added, “The Palace has already questioned his memory publicly, so anything Spencer can produce that supports elements of his account inevitably becomes significant.” According to the source, nobody knows exactly what materials Spencer may have. However, he has said that he discussed the conversation with the king with his friends and family because it shocked him. If those people remember him telling them about it, or if Spencer has other records from that period, they could potentially support his version of events.
However, Spencer has admitted to at least one mistake in the book, giving critics a reason to question his reliability. Still, Diana’s brother maintains that his “central recollections involving the King are accurate.” The source continued, “It has become a battle over credibility, and the evidence trail Spencer may have on Charles has the king full of fear at this point.”
