Barlow discussed her marriage ahead of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 7. She said viewers would see an emotionally difficult moment involving John. “I’ve never hidden anything since I’ve been on the show,” she told US Weekly.
The reality star emphasized that she still considers her marriage strong. “I have a really great marriage, and I’m very lucky for that,” she said. “But I put in the work on it,” Barlow added.
The couple got married in 2003 and share two sons. Their children are Jack, 21, and Henry, 14. However, Barlow recalled that their marriage faced challenges early on.
“I think the first three years of our marriage were the hardest for me,” the RHOSLC star recalled. She also described another difficult period as deeply devastating. “There’s times where you have two very strong, driven people married together,” she said.
Barlow explained that their busy lives eventually created emotional distance. Both spouses manage businesses while also handling various personal commitments. That distance reportedly became harder for her to ignore.
“When we filmed the lunch last year, it felt like nothing,” Barlow explained. She described herself and John as best friends, parents, and business partners. However, watching their conversation later changed how she viewed it.
She said, “It’s when I watched it that I sobbed.” She then revealed the painful question she asked her husband afterward. “Do you even love me?” she recalled asking John.
Barlow said she became concerned about John’s life outside their shared responsibilities. She wondered who he spent time with during their time apart. Those feelings eventually prompted her to seek support from her father.
“I called my dad, and you only go to your dad if it’s important,” Barlow recalled. She said their family remains a major reason for preserving their relationship. “Our kids love us together,” she said. “And I would give up everything before I’d give up my family.”
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 7 premiered September 16 on Bravo.
