Outside of the main timeline DC Universe under DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, Warner Bros. is also hard at work on a follow-up effort to Matt Reeves’ 2022 movie The Batman. Officially titled The Batman — Part II, this movie will bring back Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader for another epic adventure in Gotham. While plot details are being kept under wraps, Pattinson will be joined by an all-star cast, including Andy Serkis returning as Alfred Pennyworth and Jeffrey Wright coming back as Jim Gordon. Those newcomers include Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson, Winter Soldier star Sebastian Stan, and many more.
Production on The Batman — Part II finally kicked off in Jun. 2026, more than four years after the original movie was released. Unfortunately, shortly after this, the movie’s release was delayed until early 2028, leaving the fandom waiting even longer for Pattinson’s return as Batman on the big screen. Over the last few months, Reeves has shared a few small looks into production, highlighting the movie’s cast in short GIFs when they were announced and revealing a couple of short clips of Pattinson’s return. Now, another peek into production teases one of the most exciting updates yet.
Instagram user @jas.cinema shared a new video from the set of DC Studios’ The Batman — Part II. While the footage is dark, it shows star Robert Pattinson in the new Batman costume he will don for the upcoming DC sequel, minus the iconic black cape. This costume appears to boast more armored plating on his neck and shoulders than the first costume he wore in 2022’s The Batman, although it seems to use a similar design to the one seen four years ago.
Along with the new batsuit, this clip teases more action from Pattinson on a motorcycle, setting this movie up to ramp up to even more action in the story’s next chapter. With filming likely to continue through the rest of the year, Pattinson has opened up about the challenges of such a lengthy shoot, explaining how much harder playing the role is now than it was when he first suited up at the beginning of the decade.
While the movie is not due to be released in theaters for about 17 months, the hope is that more information on the plot and cast will be made available later this year. This is also the only DC movie with a confirmed release date later than Jul. 2027’s Man of Tomorrow, with the DC fandom waiting to hear more concrete information on the future of both the main timeline DCU and the Elseworlds slate.
The Batman — Part II is currently filming and will be released in theaters on Feb. 18, 2026.
