Peacock’s New Addictive Crime Thriller Adaptation Debuts First Trailer & Streaming Date

The success of female-led crime dramas has reached some notable highs as of late. Hulu’s cat-and-mouse thriller, Furious, became a massive breakout hit, racking up over 43 million hours watched and currently holding a solid 99% Rotten Tomatoes score. Beyond its viewership, the series has also sparked wide-ranging conversations online about what women in the thriller genre can look like. Peacock’s All Her Fault ​​​​​​series also emerged as a recent hit, earning seven nominations at last year’s Primetime Emmy Awards and sparking conversations around maternal guilt that heavily resonated with audiences.

With 80% of crime-show audiences comprising women, it would make sense to assume that female-led crime shows have a large presence in the genre. Despite these demographics, that wasn’t the case until arguably the last decade, when streaming platforms and networks began heavily investing in twisty, female-driven thrillers and true-crime adaptations. Now, joining that growing lineup of female-led crime shows is the upcoming Peacock series, The Good Daughter. And based on the first trailer that Peacock shared this week, the show seems well suited to add another explosive and conversational chapter to the crime genre.

Starring Academy Award nominees Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You) and Meghann Fahy (White Lotus), The Good Daughter is a deeply emotional thriller about love, family, and the resilience that is required of both. In the first official look at the upcoming Peacock series, we see sisters Samantha (Byrne) and Charlotte Quinn (Fahy) piecing together the last 20 years of their lives, as a sequence of rapid-fire shots reveal their haunted past and even more troubled present.

Based on Karin Slaughter’s 2017 novel of the same name (which is a flawlessly apt surname for a crime writer, by the way), Peacock’s book-to-screen adaptation will follow a similar groove to its original storytelling, focusing on two estranged sisters who are pulled back into each other’s lives when a school shooting in their hometown dredges up buried secrets.

Alongside the first-look teaser, Fahy also spoke about the show in an exclusive interview with Vanity Fair, in which she acknowledged the deeply emotional and sensitive conversations the novel addresses and the importance of bringing it to the screen. “As human beings, we’re all exposed to trauma all the time, some of us in bigger ways than others, but nobody gets out without experiencing it in some form,” said Fahy. “It’s really important to show people navigating their trauma and coming out on the other side feeling like they can heal and have a happier, more connected life… that was one of the things that I loved the most about the story.”

The Good Daughter is scheduled for release exclusively on Peacock on Nov. 12, 2026, with all six episodes of the limited series dropping at once. Brendan Gleeson, Olivia Williams, Harper Steele, Michael Dorman, Audrey Grace Marshall, and Drew Cheek will also star, rounding out a powerhouse ensemble that ensures this haunting mystery will be the next must-watch of the fall season.
