Prince Harry Draws a Firm Line on ‘Palace Control’ for Him & Meghan Markle — Source

Prince Harry reportedly drew a firm line on palace control after fresh guidance restated his non-working royal status. The Duke of Sussex was said to believe he and Meghan Markle could support causes independently. A source claimed Harry made it “very clear” that the palace “will not control” them. The claim followed a letter sent to UK officials on King Charles’ behalf. It also came before a subsequent withdrawal from Uganda’s participation in the Invictus Games.

Prince Harry ‘made it clear’ that palace won’t control him and Meghan Markle, per source

As per Closer, the dispute followed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s UK return a few weeks ago. A guidance letter went to UK officials on September 7. It said the Duke and Duchess remained non-working royals. One day later, Uganda pulled out of Harry’s 2027 Invictus Games. General Muhoozi Kainerugaba wrote the move was to avoid appearing “opposed to His Majesty.”

Meanwhile, the source said the Duke of Sussex rejected palace limits. “Harry is very clear,” the insider said. He and Meghan “will not be controlled by the palace.” The source said he wanted them to “support the causes they care about.” He also wanted them to “use their profile to make an impact.” However, the couple was reportedly told “from the start” they could not “have it both ways.” The insider said it risked him bulldozing past the late Queen Elizabeth II’s decision.

Simultaneously, the report framed King Charles as willing but limited, as he is “very keen to make this work.” However, that was “only up to a point.” They added the King’s “responsibility to the crown” would come first. Meanwhile, a Sussex spokesperson told the BBC they were “a little surprised” they had not heard about the letter “in advance.”

For Harry and Meghan, thus, the recent claim turned a status letter into a wider fight. It covered public work, privacy, and palace control that they have to navigate in the upcoming months.
