As per TMZ, sources close to Mitte’s family claimed Kennedy wanted him to choose between her and his mother. The sources alleged that Kennedy felt Dyna was interfering in their relationship.
Kennedy and Dyna reportedly did not get along. Sources claimed Kennedy wanted Mitte to prioritize their relationship, while the actor remained extremely close to his mother and sister, Lacianne.
Mitte was reportedly unwilling to cut ties with his mother. According to the sources, the disagreement created serious tension between him and Kennedy.
The couple had known each other for around a decade before they began dating in 2020. Mitte proposed to Kennedy on October 10, 2025, during a fundraising gala in San Diego.
Sources told TMZ that Mitte and Kennedy were still together about a week before his death. However, it remains unclear whether their relationship ended in the days that followed.
The sources also claimed that the relationship problems had been weighing heavily on the actor in the weeks before his death. Neither Kennedy nor Mitte’s family has publicly confirmed the reported ultimatum.
Mitte died in Texas at age 34. Following his death, his Breaking Bad co-stars Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and Dean Norris shared emotional tributes to the actor.
A celebration of Mitte’s life is scheduled to take place at The Mitte: Arts and Cultural Center in Brownsville, Texas.
