As audiences wait for the latest season of Netflix’s live-action One Piece series, Disney+’s hit coming-of-age fantasy show will keep them company this fall as it gears up for its November return. Earlier this year, One Piece returned to Netflix with its season 2 premiere, which garnered over 37 million views and 302 million viewing hours globally in its first 28 days of release. These numbers proved the live-action adaptation’s influence and impact, retaining audience interest despite its long hiatus.
Adapting popular anime into live-action has always been a daunting creative task. Netflix has done the impossible with its One Piece remake, defying the odds with record-breaking milestones and stellar ratings, including One Piece season 2 dominating the streamer’s global top 10 chart. This is an impressive feat, given Netflix’s hit-and-miss track record with live-action remakes. It has deservedly become one of Netflix’s most-watched shows, maintaining Eiichiro Oda’s unique style, worldbuilding, lovable characters, and powerful, meaningful stories.
Although One Piece season 3 won’t have the same release gap as the second installment, fans will still have to wait until 2027 for the highly anticipated Alabasta arc. In the meantime, Disney+ has the perfect One Piece replacement this fall with Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3, which will release its first episode on Friday, November 20, 2026. The Walker Scobell-led fantasy show has found renewed interest ahead of its upcoming premiere following Netflix and Disney’s recent unprecedented streaming deal.
Percy Jackson & One Piece Have More In Common Than You Think
People unfamiliar with One Piece and Percy Jackson and the Olympians adaptations will be surprised by how similar the two shows are. Although they are set in entirely different worlds, they share several core themes, including found family, choosing your own destiny, and challenging corrupt authority.
Aside from being based on popular books and graphic novels, both live-action adaptations feature god-like characters, with Percy Jackson reimagining ancient Greek mythology in a modern setting. Meanwhile, One Piece has its own rich lore involving Devil Fruits and prophecies. These two shows also feature characters with similar skill sets, including underdog heroes (Percy and Luffy), highly strategic heroines (Annabeth Chase and Nami), and brilliant swordsmen (Thalia and Roronoa Zoro). Like Scobell’s Percy, a demigod, Iñaki Godoy’s Monkey D. Luffy is also secretly the Sun God Nika, a legendary figure known as the “warrior of liberation.”
Another obvious similarity is that both shows are deeply connected to the ocean. As a pirate show, One Piece primarily takes place on the ocean, following the Straw Hats crew on their exciting but perilous journey across the Grand Line. Meanwhile, Percy is the son of the sea god, Poseidon, which grants him the ability to control water and breathe underwater.
Both shows will involve high-stakes story arcs in their next seasons. One Piece season 2 ended with the Straw Hats sailing to Alabasta, which sets up their battle against Crocodile and the Baroque Works in season 3. As for Percy Jackson season 3, Percy will embark on a dangerous rescue mission to save Annabeth and the goddess Artemis.
Percy Jackson Will Compete Directly With The Rings Of Power & Harry Potter
One Piece and fantasy fans in general will also be pleased to know that 2026’s fall television lineup will include two more high-profile fantasy shows. In addition to Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3, Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is returning on November 11, 2026, for its third season. Its newest installment is expected to cover the war between the Elves and Sauron, as well as the forging of the infamous One Ring.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3 will face another tough competition with the highly anticipated debut of HBO Max’s Harry Potter series on December 25, 2026. The TV adaptation will introduce a Harry Potter cast for a new generation, led by Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton. It remains to be seen whether the HBO remake will reach the same heights as Percy Jackson and the Olympians and One Piece, competing with the already iconic film franchise.
Percy Jackson season 3 premieres November 20 on Disney+, with new episodes dropping weekly. One Piece season 3 is slated to arrive on Netflix in 2027.
