When looking to book that desirable holiday abroad, whether it’s for some winter sun or a summer getaway next year, it can be tricky to pin down a location and know exactly where your money might stretch the furthest. After all, there’s nothing better than saving some cash without compromising on location.
Travelling to Europe is typically the best option for flights, with plenty of affordable fares available from various budget airlines – just be sure to check any additional fees when it comes to luggage. Airlines such as Ryanair, easyJet and Wizz Air will also launch various sales for customers throughout the year, so it’s best to keep an eye out for that bargain.
Sometimes, slashed flight fares are enough to persuade travellers to visit a particular destination, but that doesn’t mean the overall cost of the holiday will be as attractive as the budget flight. That’s why it’s handy to know what destinations offer the best value for money, and there’s one European country you ought to consider, as a travel expert has revealed.

Rory King, founder of Rory’s Travel Club, has visited the European country on several occassions (Image: Rory King)
Rory King, who hails from Belfast, spent 10 years globe-trotting and has visited between 70 and 80 different countries, with the goal of ticking off every single one. He’s lived in New York, New Zealand, Canada and Fiji, so he certainly knows a thing or two about travel. So much so that he’s the founder of Rory’s Travel Club, a platform that provides customers with exclusive discounts on hotels, holidays and attractions.
Now, he’s shared exactly where you can get the best bang for your buck. Speaking exclusively to the Express, Rory said: “For me, the best value for money in Europe is Malta. You can go to Malta, with flights, transfers and four nights in a decent hotel for around £250 to £300 a head.”
He shared: “Malta is absolutely stunning, it’s known to have up to 300 days of sunshine a year, lots of Brits are going there, so I’d say if you haven’t been there, I’d highly recommend it. It’s an absolutely beautiful country.”
Malta lies just over three hours from the UK and is one of Europe’s sunniest countries, boasting crystal clear blue waters, stunning coastlines, charming towns, and lively cities. Often described as the ‘Jewel of the Mediterranean’, the capital of Malta, Valletta, is a fortified city brimming with quaint cobblestone lanes, grand Baroque palaces, tranquil gardens, and historic churches, and is home to a historic port among the ‘world’s most beautiful’.

And as Rory mentioned, the prices are remarkably reasonable. While package holidays can cost around £250 per person, visitors can pick up a traditional Maltese savoury pastry, called Pastizzi, for just 90p, or a wrap from just £4 for a convenient lunch during that sought-after escape.
After initially creating Rory’s Travel Club on Facebook in 2019, having found a gap in the market, the entrepreneur launched the business in Ireland back in 2021. Rory’s Travel Club directly sends its members, who have paid just £10 a year, exclusive discounts for hotels, holidays and attractions, without charging its partners fees or commissions, so they can “essentially get the best prices on the market”.
