Liam Neeson’s 114-Minute Gritty Action Thriller Shoots Onto Free Streaming Next Month

As Liam Neeson continues his run as a very prolific action star, one of his best thrillers is making its way onto streaming. With an overwhelming number of action movies under his belt, some of them might get lost in the shuffle. However, others stand out from the rest, and such is the case with his gritty 2014 take on vigilante justice, which some might argue is better than Taken.

‘A Walk Among the Tombstones’ Is One of Neeson’s Finest Action Thrillers and Critics Agree

Based on the book of the same name by Lawrence Block, A Walk Among the Tombstones sees Neeson play Matthew Scudder in a role that Harrison Ford had been attached to at some point. Scudder is a former police officer who has turned into a private investigator working outside the conventional system. He’s approached by Kenny Kristo, a drug dealer seeking revenge against the criminals who abducted and killed his wife, even though he had paid the ransom. When Scudder accepts the mission to catch the culprits, he uncovers a major murder conspiracy orchestrated by two monstrous assassins.

A Walk Among the Tombstones sees Neeson join an impressive cast that includes Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Dan Stevens, Boyd Holbrook, David Harbour, Brian “Astro” Bradley, and Mark Consuelos, among others. The film is written and directed by Scott Frank, known for his work on Netflix shows like The Queen’s Gambit and Dept. Q.

Released in theaters in September 2014, A Walk Among the Tombstones had a lukewarm reception at the box office, grossing a little over $62 million against a $28 million production budget. Although Neeson was continuing to build his reputation as a reliable star in the genre, the film was one of his lowest-grossing action films of the 2010s.

Nevertheless, the film had a positive critical reception. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently holds a 68% critics’ score (by comparison, Taken has 60%), with many reviews highlighting the film’s slow-burn noir tone, which overshadows the typical action elements. Writing for Film.com, critic Kate Erbland says, “Frank’s film is much more of a noir outing than a straight action feature, and Neeson slips right into the tone and feel of the hard-boiled detective offering.”

Liam Neeson Returns With Another Action Thriller in Days

Even though Neeson has just turned 74, he’s still an unstoppable action force. On October 30, he’s returning in The Mongoose, his third action movie of 2026 after Cold Storage and The Fix, and one that’ll take audiences on a 96-minute car-chase thrill ride co-starring Marisa Tomei, Michael Chiklis, and Ving Rhames. Though the film suffered a leak similar to the one that affected Jason Statham’s Mutiny, the impact on the new action thriller remains unclear.

If you’re looking to revisit one of the standout films in Neeson’s action filmography, A Walk Among the Tombstones is set to land on streaming next month. The 114-minute feature, which never got the sequel it deserved, is landing on Tubi on November 1, meaning viewers will be able to revisit it for absolutely free.
