Wizards of the Coast is no stranger to experimentation, especially with Magic: The Gathering. Much to fans’ delight and chagrin, Universes Beyond has permeated standard play, and many other sets bolster Magic each year, includingthe Multiversal romp Reality Fracture.
But Wizards also tries new things with its product line, constantly revising, renaming, adding, or removing SKUs based on how they sell. We’ve even seen a full-on co-op adventure in the Ninja Turtles set, andgimmicks like The One Ring promotion. Now, a completely new type of card is on the way, and it’s arriving very soon [via GameRant].
On November 13, 2026, Star Trek will come to Magic: The Gathering. This massive set carries a lot of weight, drawing from multiple eras of the 60-year-old franchise, with Collector Boosters, Commander Decks, Bundles, Scene Boxes, and more.
Now, you can potentially pull “Headliner Signed Cards,” which feature actual signatures of Star Trek legends like William Shatner. Originally, only Kirk and Janeway were confirmed, but we later learned that Data, Geordi, Picard, Seven of Nine, and Spock would be included in the card type. Headliner cards aren’t new on their own, but signature headliners are.
Sadly, this gambit comes with a lot of provisos. For one, there are only 250 total printings of each signature card, so they’ll be incredibly hard to get. They’ll also be expensive, since they’re only in Collector Booster Packs. Typically, headliner cards run in the 500s and are individually numbered, so this is a big change that some fans aren’t jazzed about.
Here’s all the fine print from Wizards of the Coast, so you can get a better idea of how exclusive these are meant to be: “Recruit the all-time greats – such as James T. Kirk and Spock – to your starship crew with Headliner Signed cards autographed by the actors themselves. TRK Headliner cards are localized in English only and are available in Magic the Gathering | Star Trek Collector Boosters of any language. TRK Headliner cards are mechanically identical to other TRK non Headliner card treatments. Images are digital renderings, not actual cards.”
If you don’t want to bother with the signature cards, you could go a different route. Four 100-card Commander decks are coming too (Federation Fleet, Landing Party, Klingon Fury, and We Are The Borg), along with one-and-done scene boxes that include all the pieces for a borderless scene.
Star Trek fans and Magic: The Gathering fans alike will no doubt be hunting for these Headliner Signed Cards, especially since they span numerous eras of the series, and have fans all across the globe.
