Jurassic World Rebirth gave the iconic dinosaur franchise a much-needed soft reboot after Dominion turned out to be a major critical misfire. Bolstered by new stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, Universal Pictures wasted no time in announcing a follow-up to the blockbuster. However, while Rebirth‘s Gareth Edwards was initially on board to return behind the camera, he departed the project. Now, the franchise has set its sights on a familiar director to helm the next installment.
After The InSneider posted a rumor about the next Jurassic World sequel, Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that J.A. Bayona is at the top of Universal Pictures’ wishlist to helm the next chapter of the franchise. It’s a return for Bayona, who directed Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which released in theaters over eight years ago in 2018.
More to come.
