The beautiful island that’s the best winter holiday in Europe | Travel News | Travel

Brits looking for some autumn and winter sun should look at one of their familiar favourites, experts have said. The UK experienced a record-breaking summer of heat and sunshine this year, and many Brits are already missing these summer conditions as temperatures drop and conditions become more akin to what we consider British weather. For those looking to experience some sunshine and warm weather, there is one European island where they will experience that more than anywhere else. According to the Met Office, the warmest place in Europe in October is Lanzarote.

Part of the Spanish Canary Islands off the north-west coast of Africa, the Canaries have long been a go-to holiday destination fr British holidaymakers. These islands include Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife, with the first getting the warmest weather in October.

The island is incredibly busy over the summer months, with certain areas swelling with visitors from the UK and around the world. In fact, over the last couple of years, large tourism rates have caused protests from locals.

According to the Met Office, Lanzarote’s average temperature in October is 26.8C, making it the hottest destination in Europe at that time of year.

“October is the perfect time to visit Lanzarote if you’re after sunshine, an average of 7 hours daily, and a comfortable peak temperature averaging 26.8C and 19C at its coolest during the night,” the Met Office said.

“Rain during this month is at most moderate, with an average of 11 mm. In comparison to the summer months, the wind speed also drops during October to around 11.1 mph.”

Additionally, research from the National Centres for Environmental Information indicates that Lanzarote experiences only one day of rain in October. It also says that wind speeds can be lower than in July, when many more tourists are on the island.

Lanzarote has several unique destinations that suit different types of holidaymakers. Puerto del Carmen is popular with Brits looking for bustling nightlife and cheap resorts, while Costa Teguise tends to offer more family-friendly breaks.

Meanwhile, Playa Blanca is famous for its beaches and is considered a more relaxing destination. Arrecife, however, is considered a more authentic cultural and culinary experience.

For those looking for October sunshine, flights to Lanzarote from the UK are considerably cheaper than they are in the high season. Airlines like Ryanair and Easyjet, for example, offer flights to and from the island for under £100.

According to the Met Office, the best spots around the world for sunshine and high temperatures in October are:
