Two British men arrested for Magaluf stabbing in ‘brutal attack’ | Travel News | Travel

Two British men, aged 36 and 46, have been arrested in a Spanish holiday hotspot for stabbing and beating up two Irish tourists. Police say they were called to a brawl in a cocktail bar in Magaluf which is in the Calvià district of Mallorca. One of the victims was stabbed in the chest and the other suffered several cuts to the neck and a broken jaw.

The suspects are accused of crimes of attempted homicide and serious injury. Police say it was a “brutal attack”. The Civil Guard made the arrests following the incident on September 19 when several people got into a fight for reasons that have not been revealed.

One of those involved had to be rushed to Son Espases hospital in Palma where doctors found that the stab wound received in the chest had perforated a lung. The Irishman had to have urgent surgery. The other victim was attacked with a piece of glass that caused injuries to his neck. He was allegedly hit several times and suffered a broken jaw. This second victim also needed hospital treatment.

The Civil Guard took over the investigation to clarify what happened. The agents in charge of the case managed to identify and arrest the alleged perpetrator of the stabbing, a British resident in the Magaluf area, a few weeks later. In the search of his home, investigators found clothes with blood stains and other effects that pointed to his involvement in the attack. The judge on duty decreed his entry into preventive detention.

The investigations continued to identify the second person involved. Last Wednesday, the Civil Guard arrested another Briton based in Magaluf, the alleged author of the attack on the other victim. This defendant was released with charges. Police say their investigations are now complete.
