Céline Dion Plays Air Bass at Metallica’s Sphere Show

Céline Dion might be best known for her soaring power ballads, but the Canadian superstar proved she knows her way around a heavy metal concert, too.

The “My Heart Will Go On” singer was spotted enthusiastically playing air bass during Metallica‘s Life Burns Faster residency at Sphere in Las Vegas on Thursday (Nov. 5), with fan-filmed footage capturing her enjoying the performance from a suite inside the venue.

In a video shared on Instagram by user @theordacityyy, Dion can be seen standing and mimicking the bass-playing techniques of Metallica‘s Robert Trujillo, enthusiastically moving her hands as the musician performed alongside guitarist Kirk Hammett.

The moment occurred during the band’s customary “Kirk and Rob Doodle,” an instrumental segment that gives Hammett and Trujillo an opportunity to jam together during the show. According to the concert’s reported setlist, the Nov. 5 installment incorporated “Motown Yo Town” and “Copenhagen.”

Dion wasn’t the only famous face taking in the performance. Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash was also reportedly spotted in the suite, while members of No Doubt were among the other musicians seen enjoying the concert.

Although Dion’s enthusiasm might seem unexpected to fans more familiar with her romantic ballads, her appreciation for Metallica is hardly newEarlier this year, the five-time Grammy winner shared a selection of songs from her personal playlist, which included Metallica’s 1996 single “Until It Sleeps.”

“Eddy, one of my twins, his favorite band is Metallica,” Dion said in the video, before enthusiastically attempting her own impression of frontman James Hetfield.

The appearance comes amid an eventful year for Dion, who returned to full-length concerts in September after a six-year absence. Her Paris residency marked a significant milestone following her 2022 announcement that she had been diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that had affected her ability to perform.

Dion, whose Billboard Hot 100 history includes four No. 1 singles — “The Power of Love,” “Because You Loved Me,” “My Heart Will Go On” and her R. Kelly duet “I’m Your Angel” — completed the first leg of her Paris comeback performances in October.

Meanwhile, Metallica’s Life Burns Faster residency launched at Sphere on Oct. 1, bringing the metal veterans’ No Repeat Weekend concept to the Las Vegas venue. The format, introduced during the band’s M72 World Tour, features different setlists across paired Thursday and Saturday concerts.

The band concludes the 2026 portion of its Sphere residency on Saturday (Nov. 7), with performances scheduled to resume in January 2027.
