Disney Finds Its Live-Action ‘Tangled’ Actors With Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim

Disney is moving forward with a live-action remake of Tangled, and the studio has found two rising stars to take on the iconic roles of Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder. Despite reports that the live-action Tangled remake was put on hold following the box office performance of Snow White, the massive success of Lilo & Stitch seemingly has given Disney a newfound sense of confidence. Michael Gracey, who previously directed The Greatest Showman and Better Man, is set to direct from a screenplay by Do Revenge and I Know What You Did Last Summer‘s Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.

Disney has cast Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim as Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder, respectively, in the live-action Tangled remake, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The roles of Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder were originally played by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi in 2010’s Tangled. The original Tangled went on to gross $592.5 million worldwide and is seen as a modern Disney classic. Disney knows how important the casting for these iconic roles is, as The Hollywood Reporter notes that the actors screen tested in December before the holidays, and the studio did not rush the process, opting to be deliberate in its choices.

‘Tangled’ Could Be a Star-Making Movie

Teagan Croft is best known to audiences for playing the iconic DC character, Raven, on the series Titans. Croft reportedly beat out Sarah Catherine Hook (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It), Freya Skye (Zombies 4: Dawn of Vampires), and Olivia-Mai Barrett (Savage Flowers) for the coveted role. Milo Manheim is no stranger to the Disney family, as he has starred as Zed in the Disney Channel Original Movie franchise, Zombies. Both actors might best be known for television, but Tangled might be the movie that launches them into the next big Hollywood stars.

Disney is clearly courting a Gen-Z cast for Tangled, hoping to appeal to the growing demographic that has left a major impact on the box office in recent years. Given that it has been over 15 years since Tangled was released in theaters, an entire generation has not only grown up with it as a childhood staple, but they are now nostalgic for its return. While Tangled‘s remake won’t be as quick a turnaround as Moana‘s, arriving just 10 years after the original, it is on pace with How to Train Your Dragon, which, like Tangled, opened back in 2010.

The next role waiting to be cast is the film’s villain, Mother Gothel. Voiced by Donna Murphy in the original Tangled, Scarlett Johansson was reportedly being eyed for the villainous role, but the former MCU star ultimately passed on the project in favor of The Batman – Part II. No release date has been set for Tangled, but Disney might aim for a holiday 2027 or spring 2028 release date. No telling if audiences will still be on board the Disney live-action remake train by the time Tangled hits theaters, but it has the potential to be a star-making project.
