With spring just a few months away, you’re likely already dreaming of your next holiday. However, as people prepare themselves for half-term breaks and 2026 getaways, a travel insurance expert has revealed the top ten most annoying habits of tourists.
These common behaviours are likely things you’ve been guilty of before, but one could now land you with an on-the-spot fine. According to research by Tiger.co.uk, the most hated aeroplane habit is people who recline their seats back. But it’s the second most hated thing that could leave you £50 short.
When your flight lands, you want to disembark as soon as possible – but if you’re too keen, you could find yourself in hot water.
Not only is standing up immediately after landing the second most annoying habit – if you’re travelling to Turkey it’s an instant fine.
After an increase in complaints from passengers, Turkey’s aviation authority has introduced a new regulation which allows passengers to be issued a £53 fine on the spot if they stand up before the plane comes to a full stop.
According to the BBC, Turkey’s aviation authority advised that commercial airlines flying into the country must issue an in-flight announcement about the law, and report anyone who ignores it.
All passengers must be told to keep seat belts locked and stay seated until the plane has come to a complete stop and the seatbelt sign is off.
Standing before the seatbelt sign has been turned off – 12%
Not being prepared for security or passport checks – 11%
Using devices without headphones – 9%
Standing in your row before the plane doors are open – 9%
Queuing to board before the flight is called – 8%
