Jet2 has issued an update on flights and air fares to passengers with bookings from May 1 onwards.

The budget airline confirmed this week that it is operating its scheduled flights programme as normal, amid fears bookings could be cancelled due to rising jet fuel costs. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which is a key oil shipping route, has sparked concerns over possible flight cancellations this summer, with the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA) warning last month that Europe has “maybe six weeks” of jet fuel left. While the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Foreign Development Office (FCDO) has stressed there is “no current need” for passengers to change their summer travel plans, some airlines across Europe are already cutting flights and trimming schedules due to rising fuel costs.

But in an update on May 1, Jet2 said its scheduled programme is continuing as normal and a record-breaking number of customers are jetting off abroad from UK airports across this bank holiday weekend.

The airline said destinations including Spain, the Canaries, Portugal, Croatia, Greece, Turkey, Italy, Malta, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Montenegro and Morocco all have a busy programme planned this weekend.

The early-May Bank Holiday is often seen as the start of the summer and with operations ramping up, Jet2 is reporting that it will see a double-digit percentage increase in customers departing between Saturday and Monday compared to the same period last year.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2, said: “Looking at the number of people jetting away with us to the sunshine this May Day Bank Holiday weekend, it is clear just how much people are looking forward to enjoying their hard-earned holidays.

“As always, every single colleague, including our famous Red Team, is ready to look after customers and we know that our level of care is a real point of difference.

“We are operating our scheduled programme and delivering our award-winning customer experience as normal, and we cannot wait to welcome everybody onboard.”

The update on its flight schedule comes after Jet2 last week made a price pledge to customers, becoming the first UK airline and tour operator to confirm it will not introduce surcharges on any booked flights or holidays to cover cost increases, such as jet fuel, assuring customers that the price they book with Jet2 is the price they will pay.

Jet2 confirmed that it has removed the surcharge provision across all flights and holidays, even though the company has never previously applied them.

The statement comes following speculation that some airlines and travel companies may introduce surcharges, meaning customers would face extra costs after booking.

The price policy applies to all Jet2 flights and holidays booked through any channel, such as online, via mobile app, contact centre or an independent travel agent, meaning customers can lock in their flight or holiday price “with total confidence”.

Jet2 added that the policy does not include tourist taxes, which are payable in resort at the time of the holiday and are paid directly to the accommodation provider.

Announcing the price policy last week, CEO Heapy said: “Holidaymakers should have every right to book their hard-earned break in the sun, without worrying about being hit with additional costs, and they can have that complete assurance when they book a flight or holiday with Jet2.

“As a result of today’s announcement, customers booking with Jet2 know that they are locking in their price without additional cost surprises later and we strongly believe that is the right thing to do by them.

“Ahead of a busy summer this is yet more evidence of why, on top of our incredible holidays and award-winning customer service, nothing beats a Jet2holiday.”
