Jodie Sweetin is taking her comedy pageant to a bigger stage. The Full House and Fuller House actress created Smoke Show with Jodie Sweetin, a monthly competition held at Westside Comedy in Los Angeles. This Saturday, May 9th, the show is officially part of Netflix Is A Joke Fest.
That’s a real step up for a series that started as a regular club night.
Smoke Show has a simple premise. Three comedians perform, and the audience votes for their favorite. The winner gets the title of Smoke Show Superstar. It’s part stand-up show, part pageant, and there’s nothing quite like it on the live comedy circuit. Sweetin runs it every month and hosts each edition herself.
For May’s edition, three comedians are stepping into the ring. Jenny Zigrino, Gabrus, and Aristotle Athari will all compete. The theme is Millennial. Think student loans, avocado toast, and strong opinions about participation trophies. Austin Kress opens the night.
The Smoke Show Instagram account announced the full lineup this week. The caption read: “You’ve never been to a comedy show like this one. Smoke Show with Jodie Sweetin is the world’s only comedy pageant. Every month, three comedians compete for the title of Smoke Show Superstar and the audience chooses who wins.” The post added that tickets are selling fast. Grab them at NetflixIsAJokeFest.com.
The show kicks off at 7:30pm at Westside Comedy.
Sweetin is best known for playing Stephanie Tanner on Full House. She played that role across all eight seasons of the original run and then reprised it for Fuller House on Netflix. That revival ran for five seasons. But she’s put serious energy into her comedy work away from scripted television, and Smoke Show is the clearest sign of that.
The format is what makes Smoke Show different. Most stand-up nights just line up performers back to back. Smoke Show adds a competitive layer that most comedy rooms don’t have. The crowd picks the winner. That shift changes the whole feel of the night. You’re not just a passive audience member. You’ve got a vote.
Jenny Zigrino is a Los Angeles-based comedian known for her high-energy sets and sharp personal material. Gabrus has built a loyal following through his offbeat style and frequent live shows around the country. Aristotle Athari brings both stand-up and acting experience to the mix, including work on Saturday Night Live in the early 2020s.
A Millennial-themed night gives all three a lot to work with. The generation is stuck between being mocked by Gen Z and still feeling oddly defensive about their dial-up internet childhoods. That gap tends to produce good comedy. It’ll be interesting to see which angle each comic leans into.
Netflix Is A Joke Fest is one of the biggest live comedy events in the United States. A slot in the festival puts a lot more eyes on Smoke Show. New audiences will get to see what Sweetin has been quietly building at Westside Comedy month after month.
The Instagram announcement pulled around 700 likes. For a local comedy event, that’s solid interest.
Planning to be in Los Angeles this Saturday? The show starts at 7:30pm at Westside Comedy. Tickets are available at NetflixIsAJokeFest.com, but the post warned they’re going fast.
