As Fallout fans, we have to wrestle with the fact that one of the most iconic video game series of all time is going to be on ice for a long time to come yet, despite the last main game in the series releasing all the way back in 2015. Bethesda is fully focused on finishing The Elder Scrolls VI for the time being, and though they do overlap projects, it would be a surprise to see another game in the franchise before 2030.
That means that we have to look elsewhere for our post-apocalyptic fix, and there are plenty of ways to do that. Whether it’s by engaging with the older games and the extensive modding communities that come with them, or simply sitting down to watch the Prime Video show, all hope is not lost.
Now, another release is on the way that’s officially licensed by the franchise, and it comes from one of the better Fallout adaptations of the last few years.
As first reported by Gaming Trend, tabletop developer Modiphius has confirmed additional information and details on its campaign-oriented miniatures game, Fallout: Wasteland Warfare. The original game released eight years ago and it has enjoyed a ton of expansions since then, with this second edition marking the major next step in its future.
Specifically, two new core sets are releasing in either Q3 or Q4 of 2026, with the Into the Wasteland Solo Starter and Warband Starter Set scheduled to debut. This absolutely marks a refocusing of the game on individual play, lessening the need to get a bunch of friends together when it might not be convenient.
Being able to play when you want is undoubtedly going to be an important part of the game moving forward, and the developer has confirmed that they want it to be possible for players to return at any time to play some more. While there are a few practical concerns with this given the format and the space it potentially takes up, it’s undoubtedly an interesting approach from a TTRPG.
Both sets have everything you’ll need to start playing the game for the first time, with the Warband Starter Set having much more of a focus on the inclusion of miniatures. Both look pretty cool, with the Into the Wasteland Set probably being the one you want to go for if you aren’t convinced you can get your friends into it.
The third season of the Fallout show is also set to come out next year, with confirmation from Amazon MGM Studios that it had been renewed. While it isn’t a new game by any means, it does mean that we don’t have to feel entirely despondent about a lack of new content in the franchise. Couple that with these additional projects, and the wait for Fallout 5 should hopefully feel a little shorter.
