Netflix‘s roster of movies available for subscribers runs deep, but when it comes to the perfect selection for the upcoming weekend, there are three movies that emerge as the ideal picks for different reasons. On last weekend’s Netflix movie recommendations, I addressed the exciting elements found in Goat, Black Phone 2, and Enola Holmes.
That was a diverse list, with an animated sports movie, an unnerving horror sequel, and the first film in a fun reimagining of Sherlock Holmes’ world. At the time of writing, two of those films are being watched by millions. After all, Black Phone 2 is currently the 10th most popular film on Netflix in the United States, while Goat stands as Netflix’s 2nd most-watched movie nationwide.
As for Enola Holmes, the detective story was paired with the arrival of a Henry Cavill movie in theaters. Using that same idea, I decided to include an action-packed release that connects to the former Superman actor’s new theatrical release in another way. The film in question is a star-studded action movie directed by one of the genre’s best.
As for the other two best movies on Netflix to watch this weekend, one of them is a Marvel movie that includes a key hero, as that character and the actor who voices him will return in a new way next week. The remaining movie on the Netflix list is a dark story that recently arrived to dominate the streamer’s charts.
3
The Crash (2026)
Up first on the Netflix recommendations list is the documentary that is lighting up the streaming service’s global charts. According to FlixPatrol, The Crash is simply the most-watched movie on Netflix worldwide at the moment. The documentary is also Netflix’s No.1 release in the United States, so if you have not yet given it a go, the film is not one to miss.
The Crash tells the story of Mackenzie Shirilla, a 17-year-old involved in what appeared to be a tragic accident. She smashed her car into a building, killing her boyfriend and his friend. However, events soon take a dark turn, as a murder case is formed. The Crash explores the relationship between Mackenzie and Dominic Russo, as well as what happened on that fateful night and after in court.
2
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (2018)
After the dark true-crime story, Netflix viewers can shift the mood with the Academy Award-winning animated Marvel movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The film introduces Miles Morales, a teenager who has to come to grips with not only developing powers but also becoming the Spider-Man of his universe. Several multiverse variants of Spider-Man team up with Miles as he takes on Kingpin and other villains.
Spider-Noir Review: Prime Video’s New Spider-Man Series Is Nicolas Cage At His Best
Nicolas Cage’s new Spider-Man series carves a corner of live-action Marvel stories for it, as Spider-Noir creatively reimagines villains and New York.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the perfect weekend watch on Netflix before Prime Video’s Spider-Noir releases next week. That live-action series will see the return of Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir, albeit a new take on the hero he voiced in the animated Spider-Verse movie. As such, a refresher on Cage’s skills as the Marvel hero is in order before Spider-Noir drops.
1
The Gentlemen (2020)
Finally, after talking about Enola Holmes last weekend in connection to the release of Henry Cavill’s In the Grey in theaters, I felt like The Gentlemen was the perfect next movie to do the same. The action film available on Netflix was directed by Guy Ritchie, who also helms Cavill’s In the Grey. With that film failing at the box office, The Gentlemen is the ideal alternative.
The movie inspired the hit spinoff The Gentlemen (2024) series on Netflix with Theo James and Kaya Scodelario.
The Gentlemen packs quite a powerful cast, with names like Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Colin Farrell, Hugh Grant, Jeremy Strong, and more. The action-comedy revolves around an American drug lord who wants to sell his weed business in London, as all hell breaks loose when the information goes public, and others fight for the operation. By leaving The Gentlemen for last, Netflix subscribers will end their weekend on the streamer with an irreverent and wild ride.
