Although you can levy all sorts of criticism towards Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you can’t say that it isn’t a packed game. There’s so much to do in the gigantic world of Valhalla, and it’s one of the most expansive Assassin’s Creed games to date. It’s easy to see why so many people were lost in it.
That said, there’s still a lot of unfinished business that fans have been clamoring about for years. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, strangely, does not have a New Game Plus option. Even after all this time, it was never added as a free update, despite many other quality-of-life upgrades that Valhalla has received.
Now, thanks to a tease that a fan spotted on Reddit, it could finally be coming. But those same fans are torn about the potential implementation, or if it’s coming at all.
Thanks to a new tease from Assassin’s Creed Shadows of all places, it seems like Valhalla could be getting an upgrade in the future: “So I’m in the middle of playing the last [Shadows] update and we’re just customizing my base when i stumbled upon the description for Excalibur. It says: *Imagine if Eivor could relive her saga all over again with this legendary Isu sword in hand. That would be a plus!* Do you think that it’s a tease to Valhalla getting an NG+?”
Some users are skeptical, in the sense that if New Game Plus was ever going to make it in, it would have been added by now: “
Absolutely purely an Easter egg,” one writes. Another states: “What kind of sicko would write that if there weren’t an NG+ coming?”
Some are hopeful: “Chances seem slim, but we got new DLC for Odyssey and Mirage a few years after each game came out. It’s going on 6 years since Valhalla (oh my god, was 2020 so long ago), but… never say never.”
A few folks simply don’t think Valhalla needs the feature: “Valhalla doesnt need NG+ IMO. Unlike the 2 prior games, weapons and armor are singular items found in the world, you just re-find them as part of gameplay. If you bought things from Reda or Helix Store they are available immediately at the start of the new game. I used Khotan Bow to defeat Kjotve on second playthrough—much easier.”
At the very least, this tease will help mobilize fans in further requesting a New Game Plus option in Valhalla. Ubisoft has a pretty decent track record of adding updates to games regardless of their age, so it’s a distinct possibility that we could still get New Game Plus at some point.
It would be nice to have before Assassin’s Creed delivers the next (or should I say remastered) chapter of the series: Black Flag Resynced. Many hardcore AC players like to relive the series, and it would be perfect timing to get a final Valhalla update.
