Nine Years Later, Drake Is Returning to ‘MORE LIFE’ With a New Chapter

Ayo. Drake posted “MORE LIFE 2” on Instagram this week with a two-word caption. He gave away nothing else – no release date, no features, no explanation. That post still pulled in over 159,000 likes.

Nine years is a long time to wait for a sequel. MORE LIFE dropped in March 2017 and was billed as a “playlist by October Firm” rather than a standard album. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and ran 22 tracks. The project mixed Afrobeats, dancehall, and UK grime into Toronto rap. It never felt messy.

MORE LIFE was a moment. It came at the peak of Drake‘s commercial run. He was arguably the biggest rapper on the planet at that point. He still somehow made a project that felt genuinely experimental. Jorja Smith got her breakout on that project. “Passionfruit” became a streaming-era staple. The “playlist” framing gave Drake room to pull in sounds from everywhere and it influenced a wave of artists who followed.

The original also had serious features. Giggs, Young Thug, and Travis Scott showed up on MORE LIFE. So did Skepta and Sampha. The lineup reflected Drake’s ability to pull talent from multiple scenes at once. Who makes the cut on the sequel is already a major conversation.

Now the question is: what does MORE LIFE 2 actually look like in 2026?

A lot has changed. Drake’s OVO Sound imprint has kept moving, but the vibe in hip-hop has shifted. The Kendrick Lamar situation in 2024 put Drake in a different cultural position. He’s not the same unchallenged chart king he was back then. Coming back with a sequel to one of his most beloved projects is a calculated move. The comeback narrative basically writes itself.

The “playlist” format also gives him flexibility again. He doesn’t have to commit to one sound or follow the traditional album rollout playbook. He can bring in international artists, shift tempos mid-project, and keep it loose. MORE LIFE essentially wrote the blueprint for that approach. It makes sense to go back to it.

The 159,000-plus likes on a two-word caption say something real. Drake doesn’t need a lead single or a trailer to generate heat. He posts two words and the timeline goes crazy.

No collaborator names have surfaced yet. No release window has been confirmed. This announcement could mean a drop in weeks. It could also kick off a months-long rollout. With Drake, both outcomes are completely on the table.

MORE LIFE 2 arrives at an interesting moment. A lot of people are ready to write Drake off right now. That’s usually exactly when he shows up.

Champagne Papi said two words. The countdown started anyway.
