It’s Official, Wolfenstein Returns In Fall 2026

The Wolfenstein franchise has been fighting Nazis for more than four decades now, becoming a legendary first-person shooter series with a fiercely loyal fanbase. The original Castle Wolfenstein debuted way back in 1981, followed by Beyond Castle Wolfenstein in 1984, before id Software revolutionized the genre with Wolfenstein 3D in 1992.

Widely regarded as one of the foundational FPS games, it helped pave the way for classics like DOOM and permanently changed the direction of PC gaming forever. After several follow-up entries from different developers, the franchise found new life under Swedish studio MachineGames, whose critically acclaimed reboot series reimagined B.J. Blazkowicz’s war against a Nazi-controlled alternate history beginning with The New Order over a decade ago now in 2014.

After years of speculation following 2019’s Youngblood, rumors surrounding Wolfenstein 3 have ramped up this year thanks to multiple reports claiming MachineGames is actively developing the long-awaited sequel, though Bethesda has yet to officially announce the project. In the meantime, fans won’t have to wait much longer to return to the franchise, as Wolfenstein is officially making its comeback with a new RPG this fall (via Gamefound).

Wolfenstein: The Roleplaying Game is an official upcoming project from MachineGames, Bethesda, and Modiphius that is set to launch on Gamefound this fall, kicking off the crowdfunding campaign in spectacular fashion. It’s one of the most highly anticipated tabletop RPGs on the docket for this year, and will be taking players back to the timeline of MachineGames’ The New Order and The New Collossus.

While details are relatively sparse at the moment, we do know a bit about what we can expect in terms of gameplay, including a unique “I AM PREPARED TO DIE” mechanic that allows players to make one final heroic stand by fully recovering, gaining powerful combat bonuses, and fighting to the bitter end, though doing so means permanent death if they fall again (via Games Radar).

The game also introduces three interchangeable combat stances (Mayhem, Tactical, and Stealth) that players can switch between each turn to emulate the fast-paced action of the video games, whether charging headfirst into battle (Mayhem), carefully picking off enemies from cover (Tactical), or silently eliminating targets assassin style (Stealth).

Rather than following B.J. Blazkowicz directly, players will create their own Resistance fighters and undertake dangerous missions across the Nazi-controlled world using an adapted version of Modiphius’ 2d20 system built specifically to capture Wolfenstein’s signature blend of action and tactical gameplay (via War Gamer).

Gamers will want to keep an eye out for the official launch of the Wolfenstein TTRPG on Gamefound later this year, and are in for a real treat, as this could be one of the most unique experiences in the universe so far.
