Nicolas Cage’s ‘Madden’ Lands Official Streaming Date on Prime Video

Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage is enjoying a major run of success in recent years, remaining in the spotlight through a number of memorable roles on screen. This includes roles in spooky stories like Renfield (2023) and Longlegs (2025) and his growing cache of superhero projects, including multiple versions of Marvel’s Spider-Noir; he even played a fictionalized version of himself, to great success, in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent in 2022. Looking ahead, he is now set to take on a more classic biopic as one of the most iconic sports figures in history.

In 2024, Cage was confirmed to star in a biopic telling the story of the late John Madden, who is regarded as one of the most important figures in the history of the National Football League. Directed by David O. Russell, Cage’s castmates include Christian Bale (The Dark Knight), Will Ferrell (Step Brothers), Kathryn Hahn (WandaVision), and John Mulaney (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse). This movie will highlight Madden’s time as a Super-Bowl-winning head coach with the Oakland Raiders, moving to his 30-year run as a TV broadcaster and the creation of the Madden NFL video game. After the first trailer debuted in late 2025, the movie’s release timeframe is now set.

Prime Video released the first teaser for the upcoming Madden biopic and confirmed that it will begin streaming on Nov. 26, 2026. The streamer released a 65-second video featuring Cage, who confirmed the movie’s release date and set up more of the story being told on screen about the legendary NFL coach and broadcaster.

This movie will come just in time for Thanksgiving, which is also one of the most important times of the year for the real-life NFL, as this holiday is always a top viewing day for football fans. Now, sports and movie fans alike will get to celebrate the occasion by enjoying Nic Cage’s exploration of John Madden, including his dominant run as a coach and his immensely entertaining antics as a broadcaster. As Cage becomes unrecognizable in the titular role, his castmates will also get a chance to disappear into real-life sports legends, including Christian Bale’s transformation into the late Al Davis, the owner of the Oakland Raiders and Madden’s boss for 12 years.

While this trailer did not offer much new footage, Cage’s ability to transform into any character has fans eager to see what he does with such a dynamic real-world legend. Now, the big question moving forward his how the specific story details will play out, especially with decades of real-world history to explore through Madden’s perspective.

Madden will begin streaming on Nov. 18, 2026.
