Andrew Garfield’s Tom Holland Admission Is Raising Eyebrows

Andrew Garfield admitted that he had not yet watched Tom Holland in either Spider-Man: Brand New Day or The Odyssey, despite both films becoming major box-office successes.

Garfield addressed Holland’s latest projects while attending the Los Angeles premiere of his own film, The Uprising, on September 2. He also explained why he had not congratulated his fellow Spider-Man actor on the success of Brand New Day.

Andrew Garfield says he has yet to watch Tom Holland’s latest blockbuster

Garfield told Variety that he wanted to watch Holland’s performance before personally reaching out to him.

“You know what, I haven’t yet because I haven’t seen it,” Garfield said when asked whether he had contacted Holland about the success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

He added, “I don’t want to be disingenuous. I mean, listen, a movie making money and people going to see it is an incredible thing, but I will reach out to him once I’ve seen the movie, which I’m very excited to see.”

Garfield also revealed that he had missed Holland’s other major summer release.

“And his other film, The Odyssey, I haven’t managed to see either yet. I will send him a message when I see the work he has done,” he said.

Both movies arrived in theaters in July and ranked as the two highest-grossing films of 2026 at the time of the source report.

Garfield shared a long-standing connection with Holland through the Spider-Man franchise. He played Peter Parker in two Amazing Spider-Man films before returning alongside Holland and Tobey Maguire in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Brand New Day later surpassed No Way Home at the worldwide box office, according to the source.

Garfield also reflected on why audiences had maintained such a strong connection to the superhero.

“Everyone has ownership over him, he’s everybody’s, and he’s decent and he’s good and he’s ordinary, and he’s extraordinary like all of us,” he said. “It’s impossible not to see yourself in that character.”

Garfield had also kept busy with several projects of his own in 2026, including The Magic Faraway Tree, The Uprising and Artificial.

He additionally addressed speculation about another Spider-Man appearance and stopped short of promising a role in Avengers: Doomsday.
