Shell is giving Scotiabank and Tangerine cardholders an extra 3¢ per litre off at the pump until December 31, 2026. With your card linked in the Shell Go+ app, that doubles the everyday instant savings to 6¢ per litre on any grade of fuel.
Shell is advertising it as up to 13¢ per litre in value, which counts the existing V-Power discount and Scene+ points on top.
Shell has been my go-to gas station since well before Scene+ arrived, mostly because of how well the Go+ app works. The offer showed up there this week, already marked as active, with nothing to register or load. I went through the terms to see where that 13¢ comes from and which cards get the most out of it.
How the Offer Works
The extra 3¢ per litre is an instant discount at the pump. It sits on top of the regular savings from Shell’s fuel benefits program for Scotiabank and Tangerine cardholders.
- Extra discount: 3¢ per litre on any fuel grade, applied instantly when you pay
- Offer period: now until December 31, 2026
- Eligible cards: Scotiabank and Tangerine credit and debit cards enrolled in the Shell Fuel Benefits Program and linked to your Shell Go+ account
- Eligible locations: Shell stations in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the Northwest Territories
- Not included: Quebec, Atlantic Canada, Yukon, Nunavut, and Shell Flying J locations
- Limit: 1,000 litres per calendar month for each eligible card
- Stacking: combines with other fuel discounts, rewards programs, and promotional fuel offers
You have to pay with the linked card, or its token in your phone’s mobile wallet, for the discount to apply. Back in January, I wondered whether the old AIR MILES trick of linking one card for the discount and paying with another would carry over. For this offer, the terms settle it. The linked card has to be the one you pay with.
Shell’s terms also list two different start dates, October 1 and October 5, but the offer is live either way.
How the Savings Stack
The 13¢ figure combines four layers, and only two of them apply to every grade. V-Power, Shell’s premium fuel, is where the extra layers come in.
| Layer | Regular fuel | Shell V-Power |
|---|---|---|
| Standard instant savings with a linked Scotiabank or Tangerine card | 3¢/L | 3¢/L |
| Extra instant savings until December 31, 2026 | 3¢/L | 3¢/L |
| Extra V-Power savings with a Scotiabank credit card that earns Scene+ | None | 4¢/L |
| Scene+ points value with a credit card that earns Scene+ | Not counted | Up to 3¢/L |
| Total | 6¢/L | Up to 13¢/L |
You still earn Scene+ points on regular fuel, of course. Shell just doesn’t count them in its headline figure.
What It’s Worth in Dollars
A 50-litre fill of regular fuel now saves you $3 at the pump, up from $1.50. Fill up four times a month and that’s $12 off, or roughly $36 over the three months the offer runs.
On V-Power, the same 50 litres gets you $5 off instantly plus up to $1.50 in Scene+ points.
That only helps if your car already takes premium, though. If V-Power costs more than about 10¢ per litre above regular at your station, switching grades just for the bigger discount won’t save you money.
Adding CAA
CAA members already save 3¢ per litre at participating Shell stations, and Shell’s terms say this promotion combines with other fuel discounts. With both, regular fuel comes to 9¢ per litre off at the pump, and V-Power reaches up to 16¢ per litre in combined value.
Your CAA membership links in Shell Go+ the same way your bank card does, and the app keeps a running total of what it has saved you.
Earning and Redeeming Scene+ at Shell
The points side hasn’t changed with this offer. You earn 1 Scene+ point per litre on every grade of fuel and 1 Scene+ point per dollar on car washes and eligible convenience items, just by scanning your Scene+ card.
Link your Scene+ account in Shell Go+ and you get 10% more bonus points on regular fuel, diesel, and convenience purchases, plus 2x bonus points on V-Power. Your credit card’s own earn rate comes on top of all of that.
Redeeming works the same way as anywhere else in Scene+. Every 1,000 points takes $10 off fuel, a car wash, or eligible in-store items, and you can apply as many 1,000-point blocks as you like.
You also keep earning on the full price before points. Use 2,000 points to take $20 off a $60 fill-up, and you still earn Scene+ on the full $60. To redeem at the pump, your Scene+ account needs to be registered, not just a card you picked up at the counter.
How to Set It Up
Everything runs through the Shell Go+ app, and setup takes a few minutes.
- Download Shell Go+ and create an account.
- Link your Scene+ account to earn the base points and the Go+ bonus.
- Add your Scotiabank or Tangerine card, which enrols it in the Shell Fuel Benefits Program.
- Add your CAA membership if you have one.
- Pay with the linked card, either in the app or by tapping the card or your phone at the pump.
My own routine is to pick the pump in Shell Go+ and pay with Apple Pay inside the app. Every discount applies on its own, and I never have to take out a card. The same flow works at the car wash.

Which Cards Get the Most
Every Scotiabank and Tangerine debit and credit card gets the 6¢ per litre on every grade. The cards only start to separate on V-Power and on the points you earn.
For Scotiabank cardholders, the Scotiabank Gold American Express® Card comes out on top. It earns 3 Scene+ points per dollar on gas, the highest gas rate among Scotiabank’s Scene+ cards, so it collects the most points on every fill-up on top of the instant savings. It’s the card I said I’d use at the pump when Scene+ went national, and nothing in this offer changes that.
Other Scotiabank credit cards that earn Scene+, like the Scotiabank® Scene+™ Visa* Card and the Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card, get the full 13¢ per litre on V-Power that Shell is advertising.
With the Tangerine® Rewards World Elite®* Mastercard®*, you get the 6¢ per litre on every grade. Tangerine’s Shell page also lists the extra 4¢ per litre on V-Power for this card until March 6, 2027, and the card earns 1.5 Scene+ points per dollar on gas if you pick Gas as one of your three accelerator categories. You can switch those categories every 90 days.
Cash back cards like the Scotia Momentum® Visa Infinite +* Card and the Tangerine Money-Back cards still get the 6¢ per litre on every grade, as do debit cards. The extra V-Power discount and the Scene+ value are for credit cards that earn Scene+.
What Happens After December 31
Once the extra 3¢ ends, linked cards go back to 3¢ per litre off every grade. The 4¢ V-Power discount is a separate launch promotion that runs longer, until March 6, 2027 for the Tangerine card and June 1, 2027 for Scotiabank cards.
Shell’s terms also allow it to change or end this offer at any time, so the December 31 date isn’t guaranteed. If you fill up at Shell regularly, there’s no reason to wait on setting it up.
Conclusion
If you already fill up at Shell with a Scotiabank or Tangerine card, there’s nothing to do except make sure the card is linked in Shell Go+. The extra 3¢ per litre comes off automatically until December 31.
If you’re still paying at Shell with a card that isn’t linked, this is a good excuse to set it up. Linking a Scotiabank or Tangerine card and adding CAA takes a few minutes in the app, and every fill-up until the end of the year is cheaper for it.
For me, it’s the Scotiabank Gold American Express® Card at the pump with CAA linked alongside it. Fill-ups were already one of the better earning spots for Scene+, and through the end of the year they’re cheaper too.
