If you want to get a bingo on today’s Connections puzzle, you can get a full row by using a little nudge from us to get the right answers. There are a few tricky spots in this puzzle, and you might feel stumped when you’re first looking at it. However, with a little bit of discernment and perhaps a hint or two, you can start to see the patterns, and you can get to the end of the game without any further difficulties.
If you want a further challenge, you can look at trying the NYT’s Letter Boxed puzzle. It is usually a bit harder, but you also have more grace. You are given unlimited opportunities to get the right answers, which is helpful since it takes a fair amount of experimentation to get to the final string of five words. I find it a very fun challenge, and I greatly enjoy bouncing around the box edges to make things work and begin to connect all of the dots.
Today’s Connections Category Hints
MARCH 28 #656
If you need some hints, you can get a smaller but less spoiler-y nudge from us using the following clues. I found today’s puzzle a little challenging when I first glanced at it, but over time, I realized it was easier than I had assumed it to be. However, that means it still has the capacity to trick you, and I want you to finish without losing too many guesses. Use the following clues to help you get to the end:
- One category is about four words that all share a meaning about an action you may perform in sportsball
- One category is about words that define a method of containing something
- One category is about four things that you would see if you attended a certain association
- One category is about four words that come before a different word in a phrase, that word is something you might find in your house

SLING |
I didn’t get this one first, but I did grab it second. That was mainly down to the fact that I saw the clothing items first, and I wasn’t sure about PELT, as that can be considered clothing as well. I thought it went particularly well with SASH and SKIRT, as they can be similar items. I could also see SLING as an accessory. However, I eventually guessed differently, leaving me free to put together this category without further ado.

SURROUND |
This was the last category I had to separate out from the hardest one, and I saw BRACKET and BOOKEND and thought that that was a likely duo. I wouldn’t have initially put FLANK and SURROUND with those two words, as they seem much more like military words. However, I was able to figure out that they do have similar meanings, even if they aren’t necessarily in the context my brain wants to put them in. That allowed me to solve this category and finish the puzzle.

I was never in Scouts myself, but I did recognize all of these as words related to clothing. To me, this also sounded quite military-esque, but now that I know what the category actually is, it makes sense. As I said, PELT was a bit of a tricky one for me, especially given that I have studied a fair amount of ancient clothing, but I figured I would try that one second. Good thing I did, as otherwise I would have wasted at least a single guess on it.

I don’t have many thoughts on this category, None of these were words that made sense anywhere else and I had no idea what to do with them and never considered them too deeply beyond discarding them as options elsewhere. It had been a long time since I had heard of Monty Hall in any capacity, so I wouldn’t have gotten there for that one on my own. It would have made it quite difficult, but luckily, I didn’t have to worry too much about it.
