Revenge of the Nerds! UFC pays tribute to Carlos Prates and Co. ahead of Ian Garry fight in Kansas City

Seems like out of nowhere the “Fighting Nerds” have taken over UFC.

Carlos Prates, Jean Silva, Mauricio Ruffy, and Caio Borralho are undefeated inside the Octagon at 19-0, with Prates looking to keep that streak alive when he collides with “Future” contender Ian Machado Garry atop the UFC Kansas City fight card next weekend in Missouri.

Garry gives credit to Prates and his team, but still expects to finish the “The Nightmare.”

“I think he’s been successful, I think he’s done very well, and there’s a reason he’s on a 10-fight knockout streak, and fair play to him,” Garry said on The Ariel Helwani Show. ”That’s great. I think his team is phenomenal, I love watching his team, I think his team are awesome. They’re having a lot of success at the moment, and they’re a lot of fun to watch. I’m impressed with him to a certain extent. Then I think of him as an opponent and I’m like, ‘Hmm, that’s not going to work out well for you, mate.’”

Prates (21-6) is coming off a knockout win over Neil Magny.

“I’m of the most elite welterweights on the planet,” Garry continued. “So, if this man thinks he’s as good as he is, and when he steps across the Octagon April 26 against me, that’s his do-or-don’t time. I promise you, you’ve seen it from me every time when I step into the octagon, I look phenomenal. And, I promise you right now, I feel it in my heart, see it every time I close my eyes, I’m going to finish this guy.”

Their five-round main event replaced this rescheduled contest.

Silva (16-2) is fresh off his destruction of Bryce Mitchell at UFC 314 last weekend in Miami. Ruffy (12-1) recently stopped Bobby Green at UFC 313 in March while Borralho (17-1) kept his winning streak alive by outpointing Jared Cannonier at UFC Vegas 96.
