Donald Trump fires online again with his Easter post on The White House’s official Instagram account. This post, which includes a quote by Trump stating that America “is a nation of believers” with comments as the ground of open debates of any political and religious opinions.

It read: “As we approach this joyous Easter Sunday I want to wish Christians everywhere a happy, and beautiful, and blessed holiday; America is a nation of believers. We need God. We want God. And with His help we can make our nation stronger…” It was complemented with a cross emoji, which served to reinforce the already fairly religious tone of the post.
Comments came through the barrage of praises from supporters. As if to solidify the compliment, commenter @raescarbrough remarked: “Amen!❤️🙌🏼🙏🏼” while following it with a statement from @kimberlyannemckeon: “We love you President Trump! Happy Easter to you and your family!” Other comments include that of @ashlieghmatias, who started comparing “Last year we had a ‘president’ use Easter Sunday as a transgender awareness day. This year, the Lord is given his glory back, in a country that needs him.!! 👏👏”
Critics were not totally convinced. Most felt and termed what they saw as performative bluntness about religiosity. User @chiefpalakiko replied with, “Your words are as fake as your spray tan.” to prompt a sarcastically combative string of responses. Detractor @evan_bowar ridiculed in a rather damning statement: “Nothing says Christian values like caging children, stoking division, lying nonstop, and worshiping wealth. You don’t get to wrap yourself in a cross after stomping all over what it actually stands for.”
When modern politics collided with biblical interpretations, the conversation became even more contentious. “@prophetic_discipleship_94: That’s my president! 🙏🏽 🇺🇸 Jesus is risen. And he is risen indeed. All the radical God-hating leftists can cry about it.” This opened up debates on whether Jesus would approve of Trump’s government policies, particularly in contrast to @thecolorsandthekids, who claimed that he seemed to be quite radical: “Pretty sure Jesus would’ve been deported for being a ‘radical’- wouldn’t you say? With his crazy ideas about loving others and taking care of ‘the least of us.’
@arieldking quoted Leviticus 19:18, Love thy neighbor as thyself; whereas @theeselfcarehub replied sarcastically, “Yeah they miss that part 🤷🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️.” Immigration, national laws, and whether current Christianity corresponds with biblical teachings were under discussion.
Some trying to alter the course of events threw stormy plans for unity. @kayla_scofield_photography said, “It’s really really nice to hear a sitting president say Happy Passover the other day to the Jewish Community and ‘He Has Risen’ to Christians today. This is what we need. ❤️ .” It too was not safe from challenge with commentary if this is a strategy or otherwise.

It depicts how America divides both in cultural and religious lines. To them, it is a bright shining beacon of faith in their leadership. But to critics, it became a mere blast of hollow rhetoric from a polarizing figure. Sincere or strategic, however, in the following sentiment, it is quite manifest: indeed in today’s political climate, such a greeting could be a battleground.
