Controversy! (Again)
Light heavyweight boxer Ben Whittaker (9-0-1) settled his score with Liam Cameron (23-7-1), securing a second-round technical knockout (TKO) today (Sun., April 20, 2025), inside Resorts World Arena in Birmingham, England.
The 2020 Olympic silver medalist staggered Cameron with a devastating right hand before unleashing a flurry of punches, prompting referee intervention at 2:17 of the second round.
However, the stoppage sparked debate, with many fans arguing the TKO was premature, claiming Cameron appeared capable of continuing.
Judge the stoppage for yourself:
Stopped way too early. He wasn’t even in standing 8 count territory yet.

Did he wobble him? yes.. His hands were still up and the referee didn’t give him enough time to get back into the fight. Ruining what once was a great sport. Overtaken by UFC

Post-fight tensions flared when Whittaker taunted Cameron’s corner, leaning through the ropes to confront them face-to-face. Cameron’s coach reacted by attempting to slap Whittaker, an action the broadcast team deemed ‘classless’.
Watch the altercation:
The bad blood was no surprise, given the dramatic conclusion of their first encounter. On the undercard of Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol in Oct. 2024, Whittaker and Cameron tumbled out of the ring in the fifth round (watch it). A serious lower leg injury prevented Whittaker from continuing, and as the fight had reached five rounds, a technical decision resulted in a draw.
With this rivalry now behind him (maybe), the 27-year-old British star can set his sights on bigger challenges in the Light Heavyweight division.
