America’s current president has no doubt inspired one of the country’s most popular, and brutal, modern satirizations, the hit superhero show The Boys. However, showrunner Eric Kripke couldn’t have known just how similar the show’s blonde-haired, American flag-wearing main villain could be to President Donald Trump. While Homelander actor Antony Starr has stated that the evil superhero represents more than just one bad political figure, the character keeps getting closer and closer to Trump. Most recently, an image of Homelander shared by The Boys‘s social media accounts directly parodied Trump’s latest ridiculous stunt.
In the wake of Pope Francis’s death, Trump’s social media accounts, including the White House’s account, thought it would be a good idea to share, what looks to be, an AI-generated image of the aging president in the Pope’s signature white and gold robes and hat. The photo had many people questioning his motives behind the ridiculous, and sloppy, post. Was Trump trying to propose that he should be the next Pope? Was the White House making a joke out of the religious leader’s death?

No one could say, and like always, Trump excused it as a harmless joke. This major slip-up that angered most Catholics gave The Boys a golden opportunity for a hilariously accurate parody post. The superhero satire’s social media accounts shared a photo of Homelander edited to be wearing the Pope’s famous hat with the headline “Breaking: Homelander Offers to be Pope.” With his hands clasped in prayer and a reverent look on his face, Homelander actually looks like the better option between the two. The caption to the photo was even funnier than the image, mocking Trump. Check out the post below:
The Longer Trump’s in Office, the More He Resembles the Horrific Homelander
The Boys continues to find humor in these increasingly dark times. With an emphasis on the “GREAT” in the parody image’s caption, the satire of the post is through the roof, which can be refreshing to see. While Antony Starr has said that Homelander isn’t just a satirization of Trump, in a 2024 interview, he made it clear who the killer hero took inspiration from, if it wasn’t glaringly obvious from the start.
“I think there’s a very obvious human being that I know that Eric has steered the character towards. I understand why and I agree with that choice. I love that choice. For me it’s really important to make sure that as well as getting the nods to people in real-life and you know the super brand elements and all that for me to have a three dimensional…because he’s a human being ultimately that’s just been injected with a drug to make him what he is. But you can’t escape that humanity.”
The comparison only grows the longer Trump is in office, giving social media accounts like that of The Boys more content to parody. Let’s just hope that Trump doesn’t snap quite like Homelander has.
