“International Fight Week” finally has a headliner.
On Tuesday, UFC CEO Dana White broke the news that Ilia Topuria was officially stepping in as the main event of UFC 317 to square off with Charles Oliveira for the VACANT Lightweight belt. This booking confirmed Islam Makhachev’s plans to move up to Welterweight and challenge recently crowned Australian kingpin Jack Della Maddalena.
The rest of the UFC 317 card filled out nicely as well, including a Flyweight title fight in the co-main between Alexandre Pantoja and Kai Kara-France. Multiple bookings between Top 10-ranked fighters were announced, as well as one more future main event bout, so it was definitely a major day for fight news.
Naturally, the opening betting odds have released to accompany the announcements. It should come as no surprise that Topuria is favored to topple “Do Bronx” given his incredible 2024, but perhaps the breadth of these numbers is slightly surprising, as Topuria opened as a 3-1 favorite.
