Prison Break’s Reboot Pilot Adds Justified & The Americans Star

Hulu’s plans for a Prison Break reboot continue to expand, with their pilot adding a Justified and The Americans star to their growing cast roster. First announced in November 2023, work on the reboot of the popular 2000’s crime thriller began gathering steam in March when Emily Browning (American Gods), Lukas Cage (The White Lotus) and Drake Rodger (The Winchesters) were first announced as series regulars. Since then, the Prison Break reboot’s cast list has also expanded to include Mayans M.C. alums Clayton Cardenas and JR Bourne, as well as Georgie Flores (Kappa Kappa Die) and Myles Bullock (Runaways).

Per Variety, Justified star Margo Martindale has now been tapped to join the pilot as Jessica Strand, “the Warden of one of the deadliest prisons in America.” Other cast additions include another Mayan M.C. star Ray McKinnon as private detective Joe Dahl. At the same time, Donal Logue (Sons of Anarchy) will play a grieving father mourning the loss of his family. Additionally, Lili Taylor (Manhunt) will play Carole Mullen, a mother determined to uncover the truth.

What These New Cast Members Mean For The Prison Break Reboot

Prison Break’s Original Warden Was A Key Part Of The Show’s First Escape

Written and executive produced by Mayans M.C. co-creator Elgin James, it is quickly becoming clear that the Prison Break reboot will feature several faces the showrunner has had experience working with in the past. However, Martindale’s addition is also set to add a sense of prestige to the series, as a three-time Emmy award-winning actor with a long history of working in the crime genre. In addition to her award-winning performances in Justified and The Americans, fans may also recognize her as Camilla Figg, the Miami Metro records supervisor who frequently aided Michael C. Hall’s titular killer in Dexter.

Set to assume the role of the show’s new warden, Martindale will be following directly in the footsteps of Stacy Keach’s Warden Henry Pope from the original Prison Break series. A trusting figure whose faith in Wentworth Miller’s Michael Scofield was ultimately responsible for aiding his elaborate season 1 escape plan, it will be interesting to see whether Martindale may also find herself duped into allowing another elaborate breakout to occur in the reboot.

The New Characters Also Hint At A Fresh Conspiracy

Michael Scofield in Prison Break

Aside from Martindale’s character description as the show’s new warden, this fresh batch of casting news also hints at the addition of another underlying conspiracy. Much like the clandestine machinations that saw Dominic Purcell’s Lincoln Burrows framed for a crime he did not commit, the presence of McKinnon’s private detective and Taylor’s Carole Mullen would suggest that another mystery will lie at the heart of the Prison Break reboot. Given James’ new show is expected to take place in the same world as the original show, it may even point to the involvement of the same mysterious organization known as The Company.
