Highlights! 43-year-old UFC OG Alessio Sakara wins BKFC debut with vicious knockout

Alessio Sakara is a name well-known to fight fans of a certain era

“Legionarius” made his UFC debut all the way back at UFC 55 quite literally 20 years ago. The Italian MMA pioneer would go on to compete in the Octagon until 2013, compiling a 6-8 (1) record that saw him face the likes of Chris Weidman, Thales Leites, and Dean Lister. Though he was never a title threat in the Octagon, Sakara was well-known for aggressive fighting style.

After leaving the UFC, Sakara had a fairly successful stint in Bellator’s Middleweight division, winning five of seven bouts and unsuccessfully challenging for the title. He left Bellator in 2019, only fighting MMA one more time in the last five years.

Earlier tonight (Friday, July 25, 2025), Sakara returned to a bigger stage at 43 years of age at the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) Philly event, taking on veteran Erick Lozano (2-3). After securing an early knockdown, a series of left hand connections in the second sealed the deal, securing Sakara a knockout victory.

The finish clip can be seen in the Instagram post above or viewed here.

Afterwards, BKFC Middleweight champion Chris Camozzi entered the ring, and the ex-UFC veterans squared off. BKFC is heading to Rome in October, so perhaps the stars are aligning for a “Legionarius” title shot all these years later?
