Set in a prime location just steps from St. James’s Park Station, the hotel also features delightful amenities like Wine Hour with canapés and family-friendly entertainment, making the stay feel both luxurious and welcoming.

St. Ermin’s Hotel, Autograph Collection – About The Property

Located in Westminster, St. Ermin’s Hotel, Autograph Collection is steeped in history and old-world charm. The building was constructed in 1889 on the site of a 15th-century chapel dedicated to the monk St. Ermin. Its transformation into a hotel marked the beginning of a storied role in British intelligence, serving as a hub for espionage and the wartime Special Operations Executive founded by Winston Churchill.

The hotel features 322 rooms, including seven suites, spread across a heritage-listed property with elegant Victorian interiors. Designed with ornate plasterwork reminiscent of a traditional theatre, the hotel’s aesthetic is sophisticated yet warm, offering classic British charm with a family-friendly spirit.

Location

St. Ermin’s Hotel, Autograph Collection enjoys a prime address in central London, just minutes from the capital’s most iconic landmarks. Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, and St. James’s Park are all within a 10–15 minute walk. The area is perfect for sightseeing on foot, with quiet streets, green spaces, and charming cafés nearby.

The hotel is a two-minute walk from St. James’s Park Underground Station, connecting to the District and Circle lines. Heathrow Airport is approximately 60 minutes by car or public transit using the Underground. Uber and cabs are easy to arrange from the hotel’s central location.

Booking

We booked a Family Guest Room on a Member Rate Stay Longer On Us promotional cash rate at £622.44 per night. For our family of five, this hotel was a standout option because it’s one of the few centrally located properties in London with a room type that can accommodate five guests in one space.

At Prince of Travel, we generally value Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.8 cents per point (CAD) or 0.6 cents per point (USD). While this stay was booked on a cash rate, the room type and location offered a decent value for the price.

We charged incidentals to the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card to earn 6X Bonvoy points per US dollar spent on Marriott hotels without any foreign exchange fees. If you don’t have a US credit card, then consider using the Marriott Bonvoy® American Express® Card* to earn 5x Bonvoy points per CAD dollar spent on Marriott hotels.

St. Ermin’s Hotel, Autograph Collection participates in Marriott Luminous, a preferred partner program that you can access through our in-house travel agency, Prince Collection.

St. Ermin’s Hotel, Autograph Collection – Check-In Experience

Arrival was a charming experience from the moment we turned into the hotel’s private courtyard, surrounded by lush greenery and flowers. We were immediately greeted by bellmen in refined English suits, who offered to help with our luggage and chatted with us about our day’s plans, even suggesting a few sightseeing routes to help maximize our time.

At the front desk, my husband was welcomed as a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite member.

The staff also offered our children an envelop with a special “Secret Mission” scavenger hunt, which quickly occupied their time during our stay.

As a Titanium Elite member, we were presented with following elite perks:

  • Upgrade: No upgrade was available due to high occupancy at the time of our visit.
  • Welcome Amenity: We were offered the choice of a welcome amenity of either 1,000 Bonvoy points or complimentary breakfast for two. We chose breakfast. At breakfast, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that our children were complimentary as well.
  • Late Check-Out: This was not offered nor did we request it as we didn’t need it for this trip.
  • Breakfast: Buffet at Caxton Bar & Grill as part of our Welcome Amenity.

St. Ermin’s Hotel, Autograph Collection – Family Guest Room

Our Family Guest Room offered a rare combination of charm and functionality. Decorated in warm tones with dark wood furniture, the space included two queen beds and a trundle bed to comfortably sleep five guests.

The room featured two windows with views of the stately entrance and courtyard, blackout curtains, a desk, and a smart TV with casting capabilities.

A welcome amenity of macarons on the desk received a warm welcome from my kids. A few days later, they were presented with another sweet creation.

A night table with a bedside lamp and digital clock with a built-in outdated iPhone dock stood between the beds, with a USB outlet located behind it.

What truly elevated the space was the dual-bathroom layout, with one full bathroom on each side of the room. One had a tub and the other a shower stall, which was a a thoughtful setup for families. Although a bit dated in aesthetics, both bathrooms were spotless and stocked with The White Company toiletries.

Each side of the room had its own small closet with robes, slippers, a safe, iron, and full-length mirrors.

A beverage station included a Nespresso machine, kettle, and a mini-fridge that was replenished daily with water and chocolate bars. Evening turndown service included chocolates and a lavender-scented pillow spray.

We also had a chance to view a Standard Guest Room, which offers the same design and decor in a smaller footprint of approximately 226 square feet. With a queen bed and traditional styling, this room would suit solo travellers or couples seeking a classic London hotel experience in a central location.

For a little more space, opt for the Deluxe Guest Room which is slightly more spacious and offers a king bed.

St. Ermin’s Hotel, Autograph Collection – Food and Drink

Caxton Bar & Grill offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We enjoyed the extensive breakfast buffet featuring hot dishes, continental options, and even a fresh peanut butter machine. Common allergens and gluten-free options were clearly labelled, and staff were happy to accommodate late arrivals just before the buffet closed.

The breakfast buffet is normally £25 per adult, with children under 10 at half price if not covered by elite status. If you don’t have elite status you can also order à la carte from their breakfast menu.

A complimentary coffee station just outside the restaurant was available each morning and proved to be a well-appreciated convenience for guests.

Later in the day, the Caxton Bar opens up to serve guests late into the evening.

The Tea Lounge offers an English afternoon tea experience daily. Should you prefer something less extensive, then consider sandwiches, cakes, and drinks in the casual setting of The Library

During the summer months, the The Outdoor Terrace serves sushi and drinks into the evening.

Each evening, Wine Hour is hosted in the lobby from 5:30–6:30pm. During the summer, the hotel enhanced the experience with live entertainment, including musicians, magicians, and balloon artists, as well as complimentary canapés. Every day offers something different. This was a highlight of our stay and a memorable feature for families and couples alike.

St. Ermin’s Hotel, Autograph Collection – Other Facilities

Although there is no pool or spa, St. Ermin’s Hotel, Autograph Collection offers a compact but well-equipped 24-hour gym with cardio machines and free weights.

One of the more unique touches is the Bee Terrace on the third floor. Guests can observe working beehives through the windows and read educational signage about urban beekeeping. It’s a creative and sustainable addition to the hotel’s family-friendly vibe.

The children’s Secret Mission scavenger hunt is another standout feature. It not only kept our kids entertained throughout the stay but also encouraged them to explore the hotel and its surroundings and delve into its rich historical past, with supportive staff offering hints along the way. A prize is offered upon completion.

A digital newspaper service is also available at no cost.

Conclusion

St. Ermin’s Hotel, Autograph Collection is an exceptional London property that blends heritage, location, and hospitality with family-friendly touches that go far beyond the expected. Its rare combination of five-person Family Guest Rooms, elite recognition, and on-site experiences like Wine Hour and a kid-focused scavenger hunt make it ideal for both points travellers and families booking with cash.

Cash rates are on the higher side, but they’re consistent with what you’d expect from comparable hotels across London. Whether you’re a first-time visitor to London or a returning guest, St. Ermin’s Hotel, Autograph Collection is a memorable place to stay especially when booked through Prince Collection, which adds even more value to an already special experience.
