UK roads are known as an extensive network that connects dual carriageways, A and B roads, and motorways. One road in particular has been called the nation‘s longest straight road. The A15 runs between Peterborough and Hessle, close to Kingston upon Hull. The major road makes its way through Market Deeping, heading North through Bourne, Sleaford and Lincoln.
It does this made up of a mix of various styles of roading, including Roman, Turnpike and ancient foundations. The road is then disrupted by a junction with the M180, situated near Scawby. Being an A-road, the journey between Scampton and the M180 has been noted the longest stretch of straight road in the UK.
Lying in the first zone of the Highways Region, the A15 has been measured to be 100.25 miles long, translating into a just under 2.5 hours to drive across, respecting set speed limits, reports the Street List.
After the junction, note that the road continues in the east, 10 miles on. Going north, past Barton-upon-Humber, the A15 then passes the Humber on the Humber Bridge, before it arrives at Hessle.
Known for its split, this is where the second segement begins – the M18 noted to pass the town of Elsham in Brigg.
Connecting a total of 60 towns, including Hampton and Yaxley, the site also notes down several counties the road runs through – Lincolnshire, East Riding of Yorkshire, and Cambridgeshire.
Interestingly, Grimbsy Live notes that the longest straight world beyond England can be found in Saudi Arabia.
Here, Highway 85 can be found to join the capital of the Northern Borders Province, Arar, to the Eastern Province governorate, Al Nairyah. This course runs an impressive 510 miles.
